Well I just got home from my first trip to the fish lake. And let me start by saying WOW that is a beautiful place. We had a lot of fun and learned a lot but there are still 6 weekends left before the hunt, and I plan to be down there for 5 of them (Would be six but I am the best man at my buddies wedding). So if anyone cares to share some info it would be much appreciated. Here are a few pics from the weekend.

We got there a little late Friday night and by time camp was set up it was to dark to go look. So hotdogs over a campfire it was.

Sometime Dogs and camping can be quite a chore but they had a blast.

This coyote is so lucky i didnt have a gun. I think this was his own special way of flipping me the bird.

And a few elk pics, most of what we seen were a long ways off and I wasn?t able to get good pics but here are a few of the better pics I got.

I will be watching your posts with interest. I have a ML tag for this year. The bad thing about living out East is the inability to scout during the summer and build some anticipation.

I think the elk are finally starting show a little around here. I have been very busy and have not got out as much as I would like but I hear the growth this year is GREAT! Wishing I had a tag this year for sure!

JLTD, were you in the Bowery restaurant during the weekend with your buddy and your wives? I don't remember what day it was, but I overheard a couple of guys talking smack about the elk up there? I was thinking they were just trying to impress me but if it was you and your buddy, I'll forget that. Go check out the photo on the back wall if you want to see what a good Fishlake bull looks like.
There are some smokers starting to show up. Swing by one of these days and I'd run up with ya if I can get away. I'm in #52 in the RV park. Saw about 60 bulls on Wednesday night and my son seen about 20 Saturday night, but there was a lot of traffic up there over the weekend to keep them away.
a*r

And also, that is an ugly place to look where you took those photos...plus the one area is on the CWMU... There are a lot better places to find a bull than down off in that HOLE!
Been there, done that!!!!!

Na rick that wasn?t me in the restaurant; I was very impressed with the elk especially the sheer number. We saw a ton and one bull that was in the 350 360 range. We didn't know the bull in the pics was on the cwmu till after we got out the maps. I do like how you know where those pics were taken with very little info. Sounds like you know the area very well. That is one heck of a hell hole but I figured if push came to shove I would be in it. I will be down this weekend but I doubt the people situation will be any better with the fourth and all. We are thinking about checking out the UM creek/Mt. Hillgaurd area. Hopefully a few good bulls will show themselves.
