Colorado GMU 421 Help

I am hunting in unit 421 next week, the 1st deer/elk rifle season. I am staying at Mesa Lakes Resort and will be hunting the surrounding areas, Bull Basin, Long Slough, Powderhorn etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. From what I have read and heard there is a lot of hunting pressure in this area. I am driving out with a friend of mine who has been hunting this area for a couple of years with good success. He hasn't taken any "monster" bucks or bulls but does fill his tag. I won't get to hunt out west again for a few years so I want to do it up right.....

Thanks Beanman, what about the Elk, will they be in the same area .

Elk should be in the same areas. They do tend to head for private ground after hunting pressure.
