Once in a while you see people accessing hunting areas using mountain bikes. Some people in my neighborhood have been crusing around on this new bike from Madsen Cycles www.madsencycles.com and my first impression was that it could be a great elk hauler. I was impressed to read that it has a 600 lb load capacity. I wonder if the company has any plans to offer it in camo with knobby tires and without the fenders.

I would pay good money for a video of someone loading an elk on that thing, hauling it up out of a canyon and on down to the truck.
That would be a real hoot, right there!

LAST EDITED ON Jul-01-09 AT 09:41AM (MST)[p]A better choice would be a bike trailer hauled by a quality mountain bike instead of a heavy cheap bike. Much more efficient. Of course a high end bike is kind of pricey.

My 07 Stumpjumper Expert: 27 pounds and 27 gears. Hydraulic disc brakes. Hauling out a whole elk at one go would be unrealistic. Terrain would also be a limiting factor. I've got a spot picked out on the Grand Mesa that is off limits to motorized travel but not restricted for bikes and is flat enough to bike in 6 miles, I think I'll bow hunt for elk there this september.
