have a archery tag and if anyone spots any monsters and doesnt mind sharin info on them
any help is welcome.ive scouted it quite abit so far and have found good bulls but never hurts to have extra eyes out for giant bulls. thanks!

I wish I had your tag I would be jumping with joy.
I have seen the elk that call that area home and you will see some good ones.
I sent you a PM on the couple of areas you should scout I think you will like what you find.

another spot is William springs area(great camping area) alot of elk in here we always got some good bugling action at night during the Deer ML season.

theox-

I'm game to possibly trade some information. My son drew the archery tag as well and he isn't as picky as most. Considering he's only a couple of years into his hunting career I'm worried about experience more than size. Anything 310-320+ will have an arrow sent it's way. If we tag out early I would be happy to trade information. PM me if you might be interested in sharing info, etc.

Also, to anyone else that has a general pointer or two I'm all ears to any advice or general areas. Just looking to maximize his experience. We have been scouting as well, but like anywhere... it's a big unit!

No real advice as far as where to go from what I have seen this year but for years past, I would say high through sidney, red desert, mitchells sawmill all hold some awesome bulls. Good Luck and I'll vouch for you I think the Panguitch is just as good as the dutton. There are some 400+ bulls up there. I was fortunate enogh to find one in 07 on the late rifle hunt up there. All i can say is try to find some good bulls you'll be happy and shoot the best bull on the mountain is the one you'll shoot.

Good luck on your hunt. I have a muzzy tag for the unit and I was wondering if anyone has any info on the fire that was burning there. Will it hurt the hunting this year.

Mountainrunr,
I have heard that there is a fire burning on the north end of Horse valley that has spread up the mountain and gone over into Caddy creek. I would probably spend some time lookin in Blue Springs and Bunker, Five mile ridge and squaw valley also have been known to hold elk. If ya can make it to the east side of Little Creek Peak that may pay off, but ya better have horses

The fire is pretty much out now but it was only a couple thousand acres. I don't think it will effect much the elk still have plenty of places to go. From what I heard the fire was doing some good cleaning out on some of those north slopes. It was burning in horse valley, williams hollow, and towards caddy creek. Who knows maybe it will make it good hunting now like it did with the DUTTON after the 2002 fire over there :)jk

Those are all good elk and deer spots, next year or the year after it's going to be good hunting in those area's.
A little fire is good it clears so area's of the thick stuff and let it come back in aspens, (I hope).

Here's how ox's hunt will go.

First ox will pack everything into the rv and head to the so called best mountain range in the world.

upon arriving ox will quickly set up camp with all the extras including the hot tub.

After which they will go to sleep and await the big hunt the next day. On opening morning Ox will set up on his hotspot and get ready for all the monsters to come walking by.

After several days of no action Ox will realize that the big ones are all on the dutton but is positive the dutton bulls are legal to shoot as long as he's on the panquitch when he shoots one.

soon ox realises he must muster up a mighty big call to get a dutton bull to respond so far away. Not to worry, ox has a special oxinator 2000 elk bugle that brings in the nastiest bulls from over 30 miles away.

After only minutes of calling a mighty dutton bull steps out of the clearing only 20 miles away. Ox quickly puts the bull down. Now ox realises he must cross into enemy territory in order to claim his trophy. After only minutes of walking after he crosses onto the dutton he encounters one of many warning signs. This particular sign reminds him to beware of slamdunk

Ox quickly retreats back to Panguitch and decides a little night raid is the safest way to proceed. After an all nighter ox has his trophy safely in camp. Being completely worn out and out of food ox sends his trusty dog out to retrieve food for the festivities for the next day.

The next day Ox spends the day celebrating on the lake skiing with the family

The next day they pack the dutton bull up and head home

Notice how the elk is all in one piece because ox refused to shoot the elk until he was standing in the road.

Looks like a bull that he could live with.

Stinky,
Now that was perty funny. However, could ya retell this story again. I think That Ox is using a bow. Thirty mile shot with a bow might be stretchin it a bit, even with todays technology. Tweny-nine miles maybe, but thirty is stretchin it a might to far

I hear from a good source(guy up scouting for archery) that a really good bull has been spotted on the Pang Unit close to a 390 class bull he was seen with 2 other bulls in the 350-365 range. He was seen not far from a major road in the unit. So OX, Livahunt,Kirt there is at least one huge bull in that unit.

Ya, That herd of bulls is on the Louder stretch, and can be seen from the main road. Prove me wrong

I'm so sorry guys. I accidentally posted the wrong pic of ox's hunt. That was a pic from his last hunt. Here is the long range bow he will be using.

I did also notice this seige ballista being assembled on the pang. I wonder who's behind this? I guess we may need to launch arrows based off gps coordinates into arizona? I bet ox gets a giant! ROFL!

He didn't tell what road, just they was in Pang unit.
He did say they was off a main road but I thought he meant a dirt road not a Hwy. BIG BULLS are still BIG BULLS

Gator,
There are always big elk spotted from that stretch of highway - oops, I let the rabbit out of the hat. There have been many sightings of big bulls between Louder and Panguitch Lake. I just want to see something big go down, and I hope that Ox will be the one to let the air out of one. There are lots of places for the biguns to hide. Oh by the way I have drawn and hunted it three times, and areas mentioned would be great place to start.

I have found 2 giant bulls!! Only problem is they are down the road a bit on the DUTTON!!!!!!

thanks for the tips ive scouted some around lowder but havent seen any toads there and most of the tracks in there were cows. but that was 3 weeks ago.i did find 6 bulls all between 320-370 last night. one had about a 6-8 inch cheater i really like not the biggest one i seen but would shoot casue of the cheater. anyway thanks for the tips i was plannin on checkin lowder next week it gives me some more incentive now.

Hit the mtn over the weekend for dutch oven with the family and made the trail cam rounds. Still everything in the 330+ range, but lots of elk. Getting pumped... just weeks away now. Will be heading up the mtn about every other night until the opener. :)

One place on the Panguitch that always has great bulls is over on Highway 14 on the midway valleys. The elk are on the Zion any bull unit all night and cross before light each morning to the panguitch lake. About every year I see a 360+ bull or better right there most every time I spotlight. One night a few years ago I watched 23 bulls come off the panguitch lake and cross into those flats right before dark a week before the hunt. So I got all excited and got me a bow tag to go get one...since there were so many. They decided to chill on the Pang until my hunt was over. Good luck.

Biggest bull I ever saw was over by the Henry Knolls on the west side just a few miles south of the Mammoth creek (where the cut off road that goes from Duck Creek Village to the Panguitch Lake road goes. You should find a good one. Put up some pictures when you get one...not if you get one. It is one of the best units in the state.

yes midway has a lot that hangout. i had a 350 cross from pang lake to open after dark as i was drivin home during the archery hunt last year unfortunatley my nightvision wasnt working on my bow so i didnt get a shot when he crossed...freakin dead batteries! ... lol. i havent looked below moammoth yet but was planning if i got a chanc e i just havent heard of a lot of bulls that hangout there...

There are not a lot of them over by the mammoth, but there are some big boys that hang out there until the rut. Over toward Acy Flats holds rutting elk all the time.
