For some reason the hunting gods have it in for me. I went into the area Scott (Sniper) and I are planning to take our boys hunting this year. The morning was perfect, overcast, no wind. I walked about 1.5 miles in as the crow flies. Got set up on this point and started glassing. Glassed up three does. Packed up my gear and went in another mile, to a ridge I've never had time to check out. When I got to the top of the saddle I was just about to set up when the wind started blowing, then it started sprinkling, then it started raining, harder, harder. I got underneath a juniper hoping to stay dry, ha. Then all of a sudden a lightnig bolt hit about 200 yards from where I was sitting.
Now they tell you not to sit under a tree during a lightning storm, yeah right, the people that say this have probably never been in one. There is no way I was going to lay down out in the open with water running all around me.
I layed under that tree for two hours in the fetal position, soaking wet, holding my ears, getting very close to God. There must have been over fifty lighting bolts that hit very close to where I was.
By this time it was 3:00 pm. The lightning had slowed down but the rain had no end. I finally said "thats it, I can't take any more of this." I got my stuff and made a Bee-line down the ridge back towards the four wheeler. Two hours later I made it to the bike. Now all I have is a five mile ride back to the truck.
I'm glad I didn't get pulled over on the way home, It would have been pretty funny saying, " Yeah Ossiffer the reason i'm naked is; it's like this, I was in this lightnig storm and..."
You gotta love it!!!
