holic,

Finding cows and smaller bulls is not all bad. I hope this does not come out sounding rude, because it is not meant to be, but just because he has a sw tag does not mean he will kill a 370+. They are not easy to find and kill. Also, because you have not seen anything big yet does not mean you wont, but it also means the big ones are not easy. I think people listen to the crap on MM and they think if they have a rifle tag and a good unit it will happen. I got a rude awakening when we drew out. 380 bulls are not everywhere and they are still rare critters.

Good luck! Find some cows and tore up cedars and you will be fine. Find the cows then in Sept the bulls will be running with them.

>look in nevada? that there
>be ill-eagle eh?

Not if your just lookin ;-)

Where have you been looking, I go to that area to go fishing quite a bit and have seen some big bulls. Let me know where your looking and I can give you places to scout to find some big ones. PM

Did my dedicated hunter hours out there, saw a bunch of cows right on Indian Peak. Talking to the DWR guys, they had mentioned seeing some good bulls on just to the north of the peak.

I also have a peaks rifle tag and have lived on the unit since draw results came out and the closer it gets to the hunt the harder it is going to be to find them due to the influx of spike scouters out there get off the wheeler and you will find them as we have ps spikes and rags started talking sunday night where we were and the cows chimed right in as well .

There is no such thing as scouting on the SW desert. If you kill the bull you scouted during the summer my hat is off to you.

As posted here before, I put a note on a 12 ft ladder tree stand in the Indian Peaks for the owner to call me. It is located on the best wallow, waterhole in the peaks. I do not want to disturb the owner if they are hunting elk during the bow hunt. PM me if it is yours.

You may want to be a little more specific on your location. Trust me a lot of people know about the best water/wallow on the Peaks and there are more than one. If you never get a call then show up opening morning and meet the guy. Like Mo said it's BLM.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-26-09 AT 09:32AM (MST)[p]Peak, Its in the s section of Hamblin valley, as far as the best, its just my opinion. I know that you know the peaks as well as anyone. One poster said they were talking Sunday night. Have you heard them yet?

If you have a Spike tag, go hunt another unit. They elk out there taste like a$$ anyway.

If you have a spike tag, hunt wherever you wish in a legal unit. If people don't like it, F'em. You have as much right to hunt public land as anyone.

That being said, be courteous to other hunters and give them space. Expect the same in return. Hunters just have to learn to deal with it on public land. The only option is to spend a boatload of cash and lease private land to yourself.

It never fails that some idiot always comes along at the wrong time and screws up a stalk. Seems to happen at least once a year. It happened to me several times last year on the Pauns. Just roll with the punches because it's going to happen.

They're are a couple of nice bulls on the wah wah next to a working msha clay mine. They get the water from the water trucks. real thick with junipers and pine up high. two should go over the mid 300s

Elk, I know it like the back of my hand out there and would be happy to take you out. I killed a 380 bull out there with my bow out there five years ago. I have been going out there since before I can remember. . . . there is a lot of country to cover but there are areas where the elk always congregate when things get really hot and heavy. Shoot me a message and we'll get together sometime. I've been itching for an excuse to head out there anyway. . . . . .
