Definetly not the biggest buck on the hill but he has a ton of character, and considering I left the house for an antelope hunt this morning I dont think the results are too bad. He's a 5x6 (or a 6x7 depending on how you want to count eyeguards) and goes about 25" wide with decent mass on the main beam.

As he laid.

I apologize for the poor quality pics. My tripod was two dried up cow patties stacked on top of each other.

I hit him high above the shoulder which resulted in a broken back and alot of blood after he rolled over in it. Again I appologize for the poor pics but I was pretty happy with the overall outcome of the hunt. Sorry about the scowl on my ugly mug too, the sun was in my eyes.

Hey Mike, that's not a antelope!!!. That's a mule deer. Geeeeeezzzeee, you would think after being on this website for as long as you have you "might" know what a mule deer looks like. Congrats, thats a very nice buck.

Thanks again everybody. I seriously would have been plumb tickled to take any decent 4 point buck, this is way more deer than I expected to take this year with everything that I have had going on since early spring, (remodeled house, wedding and honeymoon, parents with health issues and a death in the family just a few weeks ago that interupted a planned bow hunt) I have not really had the chance to spend the kind of time outdoors that I would have liked to. As I said I was out looking to fill an antelope tag and in my meandering I came to a fork in the road (seriously:) ) on a creek bottom and I decided to go right which took me more out in the flats where I would find a goat to shoot, I went about a half a mile and decided that following the creek upstream would be more fun so back to the fork I went and went left. The furhter I got in there the better it looked and I switched mental modes and began glasssing all the rock ledges above the creek banks and all the classic muley haunts where you would expect to see one. About another half a mile upstream I spottted a set of ears, or maybe the ears spotted me, but in any case I was looking at a doe, and that doe turned into two more does that turned into 4 more does etc etc....... They got nervous and headed out up the creek bank and hill behind and this buck followed up behind. I gave him a grunt and he stopped to look and I nailed him.

Now to answer some of the questions.....

bobcat,

one shot offhand at about 100 yards, surprisingly I wasnt shaking at all. The gun had a bi-pod on it but I didnt have time to set it. I didnt make a perfect shot though which accounts for all the gore in the pics, if I would havve hit him about two inches lower it would have been a much prettier picture. Mrs Kid doesnt have a deer tag, but if you go to the lope forums you'll see a pic of her with her stink goat this year and she was first in the family to draw blood this year.

elkantlers,

Shot with a .260 Rem with 129gr handloads.

Azbowhunter,

That is the new Sturgis line if camo, most people dont recognize it right off the bat but you sir have a sharp eye. Seriously though, I have never really bought into all this camo crap for a rifle hunt, but maybe thats why I dont have pics like this up every single year either? I guess I feel like if I cant get within 250 yards of a critter then maybe he deserves to walk another day.

Deerking,

Thanks, from you that means alot as you consistantly put deer like this (usually much better) up here.

Kingfish,

Shhhhhhh, dont tell the deer its not an antelope, I darn near got him convinced. But on a serious note, I always try to apply for tags in the same area, sometimes I draw them and sometimes I dont. This year all my species are in the same boundaries so had I seen cow elk (rare but not out of the question) on the creek yesterday I could have popped her too.

oh and bobcat........ doesnt everybody have a scabbard on a Harley?

Hey Kid,

Congrats on the antelope....oops....I mean your muley. LOL. Are you sure you shot that buck with a .260? Looks more like a paint gun with all that red in the pic. LMAO. Seriously tho, damn fine speciman of a muley if I ever saw one. Hopefully I can find one anything close to that. Good luck with the rest of your hunts. Tell your better half congrats on the speed goat.

I ran a quick tape over him and came up with 177 and some change. I'm having a helluva time breaking that 180 mark. Though, I am not complaining.

Yep, that's what you told me way back when I was still capable of drawing WY tags. You were right on. Maybe in some future century I'll draw again!
