Are there any Gunnison second season hunters out there?

What elevation where you seeing the deer?

Did the early snow push any of the animals down lower?

Thanks... I head down next week for the 3rd season.

Ryan,

Where do you live? I'm in Montrose, about an hour away. I'm hunting the 3rd season, unit 55. Scouted last week, deer are SCATTERED. Did see a couple nice bucks. They were still cruising solo and higher than usual.

Talked to a buddy of mine today and they took two bucks in the 2nd...both were below 9000'

I'm in Fort Collins. I'll be hunting 54 3rd season. Heading over on Wed to do some scouting.

Thanks for the reports fellas.

Ryan,
We hunted Unit 55 second season primarily in the high country and it was awesome. I arrived at my cabin a few days early 10/20/05 to scout and all the deer were at 9400 elev. and up. By the second or third day into the season the bucks were pushed up to 10,200 elev. in wide open high country or timber. We had clear skies and no weather to speak of for that entire week. It did snow 5"-10" on 10/29 which was the day our group left for home.
We went 3 for 3 and killed all of our bucks at or just below snowline which for that week was at roughly 10,400 elev. 2 of us killed our bucks in the timber at 10,600 elev. and the other killed his MONSTER 170-180+ class buck in wide open high country at about 10,400 elev. A local had told me prior to our hunt that you will find the bucks at or just below snowline and funny thing is we killed all of our bucks at or just below snowline.
I have sent pictures to the monstermuleys server but they have not e-mailed me an address to retrieve them from in order to post them. When I get it, I will include it within this topic but obviously under a seperate post. I hope I can post the pictures before you head out for the third season. Good luck with your season! -crestedbutte-

We went 3 for 3 in unit 55. The deer were all at 9400 elev. and up prior to the season then the bucks moved up to 10,200 and up either in wide open high country or timber after about the second day of the season. Before the hunt a local had told me the bucks will be at or just below snowline. Funny, we killed all three of our bucks at or just below snowline. 2 of us killed our bucks in the timber at 10,600 elev. and the other guy in our group killed a 170-180 class MONSTER at 10,400 elev. in wide open high country. It was a great time and plenty of action the whole week. It was clear skies for most of the season and we got 5"-10" of snow on 10/29 which was the day we all were heading home. I have sent pictures to the monstermuley server and when they give me an address to access, I will post them seperatley under this topic. I hope I can do it, before you head out for third season! Have a great season and check back for my pictures I plan to post. -crestedbutte-

Sorry about the double post. I didn't think the first reply had been accepted. My apologies! -crestedbutte-
