Spike hunting on Dutton. Now that sounds like a butt kicking.
I actually know quite a few guys that are going down to archery hunt them and scout for buddies LE rifle hunts at the same time. Should be fun!
Sounds like growth is done and most of the bulls are stripped clean. I've even heard of a few bugles the last few days!

I didn't say that I heard them-just heard of them...
That being said I think the young ones could start any day now. Personally I've called in bigger bulls the last week of August and the First week of Sept. Durring the "RUT" it's dang near impossible to pull a big bull off of his cows. Pre rut is the best for calling in big bulls in my opinion. After they've got their ladies the last thing they're looking for is a fight.
Big bulls are learning more and more to shut the %$#%@# up after the hunts get going, but the archers get an early window to get them before they've become too educated.
I'm guessing we're giong to hear the same old tale over the next few weeks. IT WAS TOO HOT AND THE ELK WEREN'T RUTTING, AND THATS WHY I COULDN'T KILL A BULL......it's going to sound that way clear until the best hunts in November just you watch.

I was dumb enough to battle 10,000 duck hunter, it was amazing to hear all of the duck calling!!! After about 1,0000000000
duck calls, and 1,000000000 300 yard shots, those ducks were
nothing more than small specks; about 1 mile in the sky!!!
