im kinda faced with a dilema i have 2 165-175+ bucks spotted in a little hideaway i would really like to go after, one is an inline 28''+ 5x5 and the other 25'' ish 4x4 id glady take either one! my dilema tho is i have my archry LE elk tag to fill also!! so do i try for the bucks opening day or go after big bulls? there is a possibility of elk being in the same area ...i seen some kinda older tracks in there but didnt see any elk when i found these bucks.. the deer hunt gets more pressure im not sure how many people drop down into theis little hideaway during the hunt. ive never hunted it just kinda discovered it with those bucks in it. i know areas near by get lots of pressure. so do i try for the deer opening morning or go for elk and risk someone else finding these deer or possibly bumping them? im thinkin if i dont go after the deer right away they may nit stay there...so im leanin toward the deer as i have no true monster bulls in sight as of now.if i find a giant bull between now and the hunt there will be no question what i will go after. but that 5x5 is a dandy general season buck he could possibly push 180 i am thinkin lower 170's tho he was a long way away and i didnt get closer casue i didnt want to disturb them. the elk will get easier as septmeber comes along the deer hard any suggestions???!!!

I'd go after the deer first just for the simple fact that the elk hunt will only get better the further the hunt goes along.

slammy that is my exact thoughts! unless i spot a monster bull before the hunt i think ill go with the deer thanks

Screw the deer, real men hunt elk! (Joking)

Seriously, sounds like your using your head going after the deer 1st, Good Luck on both!

"Now we come to the most important pre-season question. Do you just want to go elk hunting, or do you want to bring one back? If you desire the latter, there is no substitute for hard work. The bigger your goal, the harder the work required to get there. Good luck!" - Cameron R. Hanes

heck the Elk rut might not happen yet, so Think that you will arrow one of those bucks opening day and second day you're back into hunting HUGE elk. Good Luck and shoot straight.

The end of the elk hunt will be better .They should start rutting hard by then. Go after the deer !

Go for the DEER! The elk hunt will just get better the later on the season goes. Deer like that are hard to find!

well im sure glad you guys are on the same page and im not just nuts for considering goin for the deer im prettty sure i will!

Unless you have a water hole to sit on where you know bulls will be coming in, I would chase the deer. It is tough to hunt those bulls early, unless you have patterned them. They will start screaming the end of aug. Then I wouldn't do anything but hunt elk. I guarantee you are not the only person who has seen those deer. They will be bumped come the opener. So you better take your shot while you can.

you have got to be kidding me
you have a LE tag and you are messing with dink general season deer?

forget the deer look at the archery elk odds on your unit and you have a lot of work ahead to get a bull down.

get busy with the elk or you will more then likely pissss the tag away IMHO!

Archery is a year round commitment!!

Let the deer grow up another year so you can hunt them when they're big. Chase the elk and hope to find a monster buck while you're after elk.

If those bucks were 200+ monsters, It would be a no brainer. Get ya a good bull on the ground and than spend the rest of your life chasing BIG mulies.

Here $5 buck's now tell me where those bucks are so I can change in my SE rifle buck tag for a Archery buck tag for Southern. LOL
Just kill one of those nice bucks on opening day then hunt your butt off for a BIG Bull.
