I am just curious to know if any of you guys have been hearing any bugling yet. I know it is pretty early as far as the rut goes.

I saw on another post where someone said that the utards were starting to heat up with their terminators. I cannot confirm if it is true or not cause I am stuck in the middle of no where Nevada. lol.

I heard a couple weak bugles last week. 2 from one draw and one from a different draw, kinda like stretching the vocal chords out.

I heard a bull bugle last weekend riding mules way back in.It was only once and sounded strong.Might have been testing his bugle for the up coming season?
3 more weeks and they should start sounding off.
This cool weather this weekend has gave me elk fever how about you guys?

Cool weather feels like september. If it keeps up, they may become active a little earlier. I have heard elk bugle in the spring, middle of the summer and in december. The rut stuff won't start for a while yet.

Elk are pretty vocal animals when they're not getting messed with.

I think the youngsters are tunning up and things should be going decent in another 2 weeks or so.

Bulls are starting to push each other around a bit more serious now. They'll start breaking apart from each other here pretty quick.

Just think, this time next week we may be looking at our first '09 Ut bulls on the ground! CRAZY!

There were two different bulls bugling this morning. The only ones I heard bugling were rags.

A few weeks ago we heard some evening bugling up near strawberry. Nothing with "umph" behind it, but some squeally spike and raggers. I was up there last night, and it was quiet as a church house. A non mormon church without kids in it. Didn't hear one bugle. Hopefully they get it going a little bit in the next few weeks.

While mountain biking last weekend on the Grand Mesa of Colorado my Wife and I watched a 5 point raghorn rubbing his velvet off. It seems a bit early but close enough I guess. His velvet was about half gone.

The two weekends I have heard and watched bulls and cows vocalize. This last Saturday it was only 20 degrees at 11,000 ft until the sun came up and not only did it feel like fall the elk were acting like it was fall. Lots of boxing and just generally playing around. Seems like it is 10 to 15 days ahead in western Colorado.

While scouting for my upcoming hunt last night, I heard two bulls bugle. One fairly raspy bugle sounded off and the other bull answered immediately with one of his own. They were not overly aggressive, but definitely full on bugles.
