As a non-resident, if I want to apply for a deer tag, do I have to pay for a combination tag to apply for a hunt? and if I want a preference point then I also need to buy a combination tag, so either way I have to pay $200 just to get a point, is this correct?

You do have to buy a license-so yes after you put in for a few critters you'll be looking at around $200.00 plus if you want points.

To get a bonus point for future hunts, yes you have to buy the hunting license. If your applying online then they charge you for the application fees, (which are getting outrageous), which should come close to the $200 that you have stated. But remember, your first time applying you can draw a tag. If you have a little more money, then apply for all the species in the state and start to collect bonus points for future years. (If they are needed). Look at the draw results, people get drawn with 0 bonus points. Also, in Nevada, we square the bonus points. My personal example is, I have 11 bonus points for Bull Elk, which means in this next draw for elk I'll have 11X11=121 chances plus the new application for a total of 122 chances at getting a low number in the draw. Hope this make sense. Good luck and happy hunting!

144.00 TOTAL FOR THE GENERAL LICENSE.
240.00 also a 10.00 application fee.The 10.00 app fee will not be refunded even if you do not draw.
388.00 TOTAL IF THEY DID NOT RAISE THE PRICE FOR DEER IN 2007 JUST WAITING FOR MY NEW REGULATION BOOKLET SHOULD BE HERE SOON.
If you were born after 1/1/1960 you will need to submit proof of hunter education or pre-register your hunter education certificate before you can apply in Nevada.

Thats true I was thinking they sent mine last year around the third week in March.

Cantkill, if you are going to take the plunge, think about this: you are paying $140 for a hunting license so you can get a point for what? deer? If you apply for deer, elk, antelope desert sheep, calif bighorn, rocky mountian bighorn you are paying less than $25 dollars of that license fee per preference point. Realize that each of these species has an additional cost over top of the license fee but Nevada does have quality for every species, in almost any unit.
My advice is to either jump in with both feet or go somewhere else, my two cents worth.
