EastLand SE UT elk herd

I hear the F&G is taking out this herd due to much crop damage,
Anyone hearing about this,They will start removing them this fall until none are left.

"I have found if you go the extra mile it's Never crowded".

I hear the same thing. I'm sure they will continue the hunt for a few more years until the herd is mostly gone. I do know that some of the trouble comes from colorado elk that gets pushed over from all the hunting pressure.

I just got off the phone with a farmer down there who said the DWR is currently spotlighting and killing elk and deer on this unit. I was trying to find a spot for a friend who has a kid with a youth tag to hunt, but now I don't know if it's worth the 400 mile drive.

Being a farmer, I understand the problems game can cause (I'd trade the whole flock of sky carp that eats our grain every year for a few of those bulls, though), but it would be really nice if the DWR would let hunters do the management.

I just spent a couple days down there and the landowners won't let you cross their land. They are charging $5k - $10k for trespass fees though no one actually asked me to pay. They just wouldn't let you on their land. I went knocking on doors asking for permission and while everyone was very nice, no one wants you to kill the elk.

So what is up with this hunt? If they want them gone, let us hunt them. If they want to make money, keep it a CWMU or an open bull unit and let them make some money.

I also heard from three people that they were spotlighting and killing elk. I never heard a gunshot while I was down there so they weren't doing it on the weekend.

Rumor has it that the Mossback crew was down there trying to find a monster in the velvet.

hey guys if this is the sunflower crops your talking about, then yes they are killing them, i know i guy from the dwr and he said they are going down each week on wednesday or thursday spotlighting for deer and elk, they claim they are only shooting cows and does and some yearling bucks an bulls, but trying to let the hunters get the bigger ones, he said they do it during the week to try and not mess up the majority of the hunters wich usually hunt the weekends, but he also told me that the farmers were allowing you to hunt the fields but doesnt sound like it,, he told me the udwr paid out $150,000 plus dollars for crop damages and that is why it isnt in the cwmu because they make more money off the udwr and the elk being in the fields than they do off the crops and elk tags, WTH!!!
