LAST EDITED ON Nov-09-05 AT 05:22AM (MST)[p]I am in the Boise area and just recently moved here last year from Alabama. I've hunted stand hunted Whitetail all my life but have never hunted mule deer. Can someone point me in the right direction as far as tactics and techniques. I'm having a hard time finding a acorn and persimmon tree here around the Lucky Peak area :)~

The best advice I can give you is to buy a good pair of binoculars and a good pair of hunting/hiking boots. If you're used to stand hunting then you should be able to adapt your sitting and waiting skills to sitting and glassing. In the open areas there in unit 39 you can hunt a lot of ground with your eyes rather than your feet. Don't go cheap on the binos.

There are a few good books out there you should check out. I can't remeber the names of the books but one is by Mike Eastman. Also, check out some of the magazines that are western state specific. I like Huntiing Illustrated, Eastmans Hunting Journal or Eastmans Bowhunting Journal and MuleyCrazy Magazine. There are alot of great articals in these mags with alot of good info. My personal favorite is Hunting Illustrated for learning new tactics and such, but if I want to drool.... I pick up an issue of MuleyCrazy..... gooood horn porn!!!

Hope that helps!
