WAmuleyhunter,

That is a heck of a buck, I don't think many people could pass up a buck like that. Congratulations

Awesome buck, congratulations. He has a alot of character and gnarly bases. How wide is he? Did you score him yet? I couldn't hold out as long as you on my buck this year. I waited a whole 3 hours.

Really Really nice buck..

congrats.. I dont know anyone who would pass that guy up

is this your biggest? it would be mine, but I will never get one that big!

Great buck. There are a lot of points on that rack. Were those first pictures taken at the kill site. Looks like the snow did not make it over there. How many points did you have when you drew the permit. See many bucks.

He must have been pretty low in elevation. I was up on Tyee and there was a lot of snow on Saturday and a bunch more coming.

Gentlemen, thank you all for all the kind words, means a lot to me. He is a great buck and the more i look at him the more i love him. Like i said i am sad that i am done hunting but just really pleased with what i got.

Now for the story, i hunted everyday all day long until i got him. I took him on the 7th in the afternoon. I have been all over the western part of my unit the highest i could get for the most part. i was in snow that ranged from 2 1/2 feet in a spot one day to another spot that had 4 inches the next and as you can see in some places none. I was hopeing to stay up top to catch one coming through up high. Come to find out the ones moving through the snow werent stopping at all in their usual places and i was getting really frustrated as a few people know. I saw tons of does and i saw several young deer, lots of spikes and two points and a couple 3's and a couple young 4x4's. The area that i hunted the deer just werent there, they were traveling during the night and i was missing them. They dropped down low on me and i was above them or i probably would have seen several more bucks. So come the 7th i got stuck in a huge snow drift and had to turn around, being mad that i couldnt get to my glassing spots i got out of there and went to another spot that was lower on the ridges. I am glassing the ridges and all of a sudden this guy pokes his head up and over the ridge and i sat and glass him for like 20 minutes. I was also looking at another heard of deer on the other side of me that had a couple smaller bucks in it. I back out of the spot and let the buck decide where he wants to go, i am sitting on a migration trail so i knew he was either skirting the ridge or he was going to come right at me. i wait 10 minutes and here he comes right at me with his nose on the ground. I backed off and pretty much paralled him down the ridge i finally got him to stop at no more than 50 yards and put one shot right through his heart and i had the biggest buck of my life.
He has a lot of points and from the pictures they dont do him any justice. if you count everything including eye guards he is a 7x8, he has a cheater off the back of his mainbeam on one of his sides you cant see in the pics. He scores a little over 185 gross non typical and typical he goes 171 3/4. all of his points have good length. He has good mass and hardly any deductions. I was quite suprised by his score since his width isnt all that great he is right in there at 24 1/2 inches but he is also 20inches tall.
I have many more pictures but tried to pick out a couple that showed everything. As you can see in that particular spot there wasnt any snow but it was close by. The deer are really moving now but i cant bring myself to go up and look at them cause i am afraid i might see something bigger.
I had a great hunt, and couldnt be happer, i told my self if i had the chance at a buck with character i would take him. Thank you to those of you that helped me along the way. You know who you are. And thank all of you for all your kind words. Now i have to get ready for Montana!!!!

thank you and sorry this is so long

THATS a SWEET buck Garrett. CONGRATULAIOTNS!!!!!!!!!!
Thats the best Washington buck I have seen this year so far. Way to go!

Man, thats a great looking buck. He would have been a true giant with like 2 more years on him!! (not trying to bring ya down, just pointing out that he has a great nontyp structure and has room to grow!!)

Congrats!

Great buck Garrett!! Way to go! Not too many guys would pass on a buck like that anywhere. I know I wouldn't! I know you've been waiting a long time for a chance for a buck like that too. Way to hang in there. I am a little jealous though. :) This was a great year to draw a late tag! Wish I would have.

Nice buck! The smile says it all!

Very, very nice buck, I like him. You did good, I would have hammered him, he's got just about everything a guy could want in a buck, good mass, tine length, knarly bases, and a few stickers for character. Unfortunately for you it will be back to the general seasons now. It can be tough to go back.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-09-05 AT 09:54PM (MST)[p]Garrett I know you've been drawn for a sheep also, what else have you been drawn for? I want to know what your good luck ritual is? Is this your first deer tag?

Nice Deer!!! Send me a pm for some archery advice if you don't mind.

Dandy buck and you didn't even have to wait til the last day! I don't know what's worse, shooting one early and having to quit hunting or waiting til the end and having to shoot a little one? Wait, yes I do!!!

Good job and good luck in MT!

Absolutely Awesome deer man! You can not expect anything better than that! I know what it's like up there and what you had to go through....that is Sweet! Congratulations on your biggest buck so far. Good Luck in MT....as if you need it. :)

Nice Buck Garrett, Congrats to ya. That is a special time of year to be chasing bucks in that country.I sure miss it. I grew up on Burch and use to chase them every year with our bows and would never see another hunter, times have changed.

Sweet ,Sweet, Sweet buck. Great job man and congratulations! Makes my wait for the late archery season over there even more painful.

That is a smokin buck! its nice to see our state producing some quality bucks! great job! good luck in Montana I'm on my way too.

Where you guys headed in montana, eastern or western, my cousin in eastern montana said the muleys are rutted up but it looks like its about 60-65 degrees right now.

I leave Olympia on Monday the 14th and will be hunting just east of Lewistown.Looks like it should cool down a little next week. highs of mid 40s and lows in the high 20s low 30s.

Should be good hunting. Good luck to everyone.

Im headed to south east MT. I noticed its darned near 70 today! but rainy/snowy sunday mon with cold temps tues and it flattens out wed on...I figure about Monday its going to get real good over there! (thats the day I start hunting!) haha

Wow! Congrats, you could have told me 200+ and I wouldn't have argued. Glad to hear the persistance paid off!

Thank you guys so much for all the comments, really means a lot that you guys like my story and my buck. He is definitly a special deer. Now i cant wait for the mount :) I am heading to Montana and will be hunting out of Lewistown like always. I cant wait sounds like the deer really had a good year in horn growth. WAmuley....nice job, congratulations...i was in the 'swakane' last year, and i'm never going back....i hate 'heights'...again, congratulations on a great buck....

Great buck !!! A classy rack. Its always nice to get up close for the shot. Many a guy has waited for a bigger one only to be foiled the dreaded Swakane fog!

Really good looking buck, Its fun when you work so hard and then eventually things come togather! Nice job.
