Anyone hear that next year Oregon archery season is going to a draw? This is what the ODFW told me two weeks ago. Also during the achery season that with an elk tag you can no longer kill a cow!!!

This bites...

I hear that the Ochoco Unit will be a draw for archery elk. You must have an Ochoco archery elk tag to hunt archery deer in that unit. From what I hear the other units are going to be bull only archery. I hunt the Ochoco unit and that place has turned into a real zoo. I think this was needed. I was really gettin tired of pickin up beer cans from the road hunters that buzzed around on their quads during the bow season. I've hiked in good distances only to have some knucklehead on a quad come ridin through the woods. I think this is long overdue for that unit. I've been to the Sportsman's Warehouse in Bend before archery season this year you should have seen the last minute 'would be' bowhunters buying bows a few days before the opener. That'll tell you how many of these guys are frustrated rifle hunters that didn't draw a tag looking for an excuse to get out. Some of these guys have no business with a bow and give the rest of us bowhunters a bad rap.

Yeah, its true. A good Friend of Mine is a State Policeman, he told me that the day they passed it. The only part i was upset about was the not being able to shoot cows anymore. From what i understand, it will be a draw, but you will pretty much be guaranteed a tag, unless you put in for one of the limited entry units, which are any elk, but the ther units that were either elk during the general season, will be bull only know. If im not Mistaken, the Ochocho have always been that way havent they? I thought you had to have a controlled elk and deer tag to hunt elk, or some sort of combination of the two.

Ochoco unit during the achery season you can kill cow/bull. I had a achery deer tag for this unit and was stopped by a warden and he never said anything about having two tags. I drew a first season rifle elk tag after 5 yrs of trying. The warden todl me that the unit now only holds 10 bulls for every 100 cows. It should be up to around 20 bulls per 100.

I think this is great what they are doing for the elk herds. There are WAY to many achery hunters in this unit. Last year a total of over 3900 people were in this unit alone.
