I don't want it to end! After 12 years it applying for an archery tag, (I am more than a little unlucky) I am finally in the game. I had no idea it would see this much action or have this much fun.
After the first 5 days of backpack hunting I have had 2 legitimate chances at 340 bulls and I have seen a few in the 360 to 370 class. My goal is a 350 class animal and it appears I will be get my chance. (14 days of hunting to go)
Question: Do all LE elk hunts have this kind of action?

Great attitude! Making the most of it. I hope you get one of those big guys!

I have never heard a guy come on here in August and have nothing but good things to say. You are going to do well. Good luck!!!! You are gonna have to change your name to closingthedeal.

It was hot and tough hunting but who could complain! The bulls are already bugling and pushing each other around a bit. Hours of energy sucking heat in the day, ice cold and frost in the morning, no oxygen at 9,500ft, nasty vertical terrain, long hours of no elk, then . . . . BULLS EVERYWHERE!! Who wouldn't enjoy this?
Hopin? for a 380, goin? for a 350, thrilled with a 330!

I don't think you can go wrong with your attitude. You would be a fun guy to hunt with. Keep up the hard work and nail a big stinky.

Sounds like your really enjoying your hunt! I hope you get that 380 bull that would be awesome! What unit are you hunting? I have heard from a few others that they are seeing some good bulls also! Good luck to you and enjoy that hunt!

Michael,
I was blessed last year to draw that tag and know just what you are saying ... that is absolutely cool and beautiful country. Get high, glass to find the bull you're after, and then dive off and go get him. Worked for me and it sounds like that's just what you're doing. Hold out for the one of your dreams, cause he's there but you will be tempted while waiting for him to screw up. Enjoy every minute of it and let us know how you do. I'm gonna be out there just a bit south of you here in a few days....can't friggin wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am hunting the Beaver unit. Good advice on glassing high and going in after them. This unit has little ?glassable? country where the bulls summer. I moved into this hunting area to get off the sidelines and in the game. I have a few great vantage points go glass from. Going in after them is easy to do with the quality of bulls I am seeing. Coming back up top to glass is the hard part!
I am heading back in tomorrow night for 5 more days of ?play time?! Wish me luck!

cantclose,

Hey, I will be down Beaver in a few weeks for my wife's mountain goat hunt. If you locate a big billie during your travels, please send me a email or call me! Not sure if you know much about goats, but I am searching for a big mature billie! I will PM my cell phone number if you dont mind just in case?

Good luck getting a big bull!

Best of luck!! I will be down there this weekend again if you need any help packing. Hope you score on a 380 plus. You have certainly put in the work.

Archery is a year round commitment!!

You make me wish I wouldn't have tagged out so early. Wish you luck, and hope you shoot straight when then the opportunity comes. Pay attention to all details for these memories will last a lifetime.

I was quite impressed with your "dink". That was a beautiful 350 bull and in full velvet to boot.
I will do my best to savor every minute and hopefully match your success.

Good Luck on your Bow hunt i will be there right behind you on the LE Rifle hunt.

Great unit and i know there are some great bulls on the unit.

Keep us posted on your daily success.

Hi Mike,

I ran into you in South Creek, I heard you were hunting up the SF of NC I have been up there also have you seen my Tent. I heard you passed that Big 5x5 I passed him the 1st morning also. I got some great trail cam pics of him... I will be back up in that country later this week, you are welcome to use my camp if you need to. That is a mean canyon from one side to the other. I water and grub stashed in the tent. Good luck to you, shoot me a pm if you want....

Way to stay positive. I enjoyed my hunt the same way you are doing right to the last evening.
And things will only get better from now until the end of your hunt. Sounds like you are living the dream and I am jealous of you, as I'm sure lots of others are.
Keep us posted and good luck.....Find a bull you like and smoke him!!!!!

Sounds like you are having a blast! Keep up the good work. You will score. That area is addicting for sure!
