Strategy questions...

I have a Wasatch archery tag and arrived on Tuesday in Roy. I went out with a local friend who is helping me out and we covered alot of country Wednesday mostly just driving around to get a feel for some of the unit. I'm working thru Sunday and then start hunting Monday. I'm definitely at a disadvantage as I'm not local so pre scouting and knowing where waterholes are will be a trial and error deal.

Questions I have is whether it's better to find a high vantage point in at first light and glass several hillsides and then again just before dark or do I want to be putting down some shoe leather at those times and just trying to find elk/wallows? What makes the most sense in order to maximize time and effort? I love to get out there and see what's over the next rise but am always looking to learn from those with more experience. Any input would be appreciated. Looks like the weather is going to cool some towards the end of next week so I'm glad to see that.

Definitely got to see some great country and am looking forward to being out in it come Monday.

The elk are starting to sing pretty good up on the Wasatch now, hopefully your friend is putting you in a good area.

This time of year the bulls are telling you where they are at, listen, watch and learn where a bull is that you want, then go after him.

If your not too picky and just want a nice mature bull, you can "chase bugles".

Personally i like to find a good bull, figure his patterns out, then go kill him. (spot & stalk)

Good luck and be sure to post pix!! :)
