Curious about Tagging Game

I have seen on a lot of the pictures of deer and elk that the hunters are placing their tags around the antlers. BUT in the regs for lets say COLO for instance, that the tags are to be attached to the CARCASS and remain there till the meat is processed.
Wheather or not the Game Warden will site you I don't know but I sure would not want to loose my animal and get a ticket and fined for this slight misjudgement.
When we were in NV back in Oct. when the deer were skinned out in the field I made sure the tags were attached to the leg bone above the knee joint as it was and has been done this way in other states.
Any answers or opinions but keep it civil and clean, you know what I mean.

I know we are probably different up here but in Saskatchewan there are three tags for each animal. One tag stays with the antlers on is attached to the hide and one tag stays with the meat.

I BELIEVE HERE IN UTARD THE TAG CAN BE ON THE ANTLERS BUT ONCE THE HEAD IS CUT OFF THE TAG NEEDS TO BE PUT ON THE CARCASS!!!

THERE WAS ONE YEAR HERE IN UTAH WHERE THE LICENSE HAD THREE TAGS,I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED,THEY ONLY HAD IT ONE YEAR???

THE ONLY bobcat THAT DAMN NEAR GOT A CITATION FOR NOT NOTCHING THE SEX OUT OF THE TAG,THE OFFICER WAS FURIOUS CUZZ I DIDN'T NOTCH THE 'M',I THOUGHT WITH THE HORNS IT WAS OBVIOUS!!!

I know the Colorado regs were very confusing for me. I was used to AZ and CA regs, where you can attach to the antlers. I really like the "3 tag" idea that saskman mentioned, as it makes it easier to understand.

The CO "proof of sex" attached to the carcass/antlers thing is a pain for those that bone out animals and pack it out on your back. (Like this years archery buck)

Down in Colorado this elk season there was a game warden that made the guy show her the tag with the meat. So he proceeded to open up two ice chests with two separate elk in them. Each with their appropriate tags along with the deboned meat. She proceeded to have him tie the tags ONTO the meat with bailing wire. In other words, puncture the meat with the wire, thread it through the meat, then attach the tag.

True story.

I was not aware of that either, I thought CO had a "Carcass Tag" to go with the meat? I'm a NR so....??? And that whole thing about showing evedence of sex by leaving the private parts on is a joke IMO!

BOHTNR: For proof of sex in Colorado, I have found a way that works for me with little added weight or pain. Packed out a mature 8x7 buck 5 miles from the high country a couple of years ago, so I have done it. What I do is split the scrotum down the middle and leave each 1/2 scrotum and a very small patch of skin attached to each hindquarter. I boned out the hindquarter, just left the testicle attached. Adds next to nothing in weight or bulk. Of course, you do have to leave them in quarters, so you can't completely muscle them out, but there was no bone in what we packed out except the shoulder blade. Leaving the testicle attached in no way taints the meat. That deer was the sweetest mule deer I have ever tasted.
