after ten yaers I finally drew my elk tag for Nevada. Knowing that it takes so long to draw and ten years to re apply after harvesing I was not gonna throw it away on a total dink so i set cameras out the weekend I recieved my email saying I drew. I watched several bull through the summer spending every weekend in one part of the unit checking cameras and glassing. I believe I have had this bull on camera but the water was so far back and I was seeing comparable bulls on more accesable water. I left him alone for the first 6 or 7 days in hopes that the other bulls would come in on the other water so I set my pop up blind (which I dont recommend sounds like trash bags in the wind window flaps make a ton of noise but thats off the subject) had a few Bulls come in nothing like I was seeing through the spotting scope two weeks before so I decided to go pack in 1.68 mile through shell rock and tall ridges that I had been hiking into all summer in hopes that his summer pattern had not changed after sitting in the brush in a natural blind for a day nothing but wild horses and a few deer. The next morning i decided to try again it looked so good the small spring that i remmeber looked like a cow pond from the bulls stompen and wallowin I knew they had to still be in the country. the clouds rolled in around 4 pm and I thought thatsa just what I need to get these bulls movin earlier and sure enough at about 6 he came in for a drink at twenty yards and one arrow in the lungs took him down about 80 yards down. I should thatnk my wife whoe is nine months prego for being so understandin and dad and brother who with out them i would not have been able to pack out the giant animal by my self

Are you ready to pack out another one? My buddy at work has a rifle tag for the same area.

Thanks for sharing your post & pics...I love to read stories of a DIY hunt on public land on this site far better than the pro magazine hunts where half a doz. guys are posing in their cammy shirts, makes you wonder if there were half a doz. hunters, one shooter or not. I ended up the end of my bull hunt chasin' two bulls all alone a few yrs. back tryin' to close the deal... even tho' it was a skunk, I had a great hunt, learned a few things through mistakes. 62 yrs. old now, 3 yrs. left to wait 'til I can start putting in again...only took 11 yrs. hopefully shorter next go round. In the meantime stories like your successful hunt will keep me going, and I'll try cow elk huntin'(if and wheen I can draw!) Good job on your hunt! Sweet bull!
