Old muley video?

When I was younger I remember watching a video, several bowhunts in Nevada. Once the bowhunter gets really close to a muley buck, the buck has moved and his spotter is giving him hand signals, but the buck spots him before he spots it. One hunt they rifle shoot a buck in the snake river gorges. Great footage shooting a buck out of a bachelor herd heading up their escape route. Does this ring any bells? I'd really like to get my hands on the video if anyone remembers it?

Sounds like a video I remember that featured a guy named Larry Stanky or something like that.

It sounds like "Too many bucks" to me. The buck that he ends up shooting was like a 24" 4-point that was with something like 6 other bucks... Toole: does the movie that you are thinkin' of have footage of a group of 40 or 50 bucks at one piont up in the high country? If so it prob. is "Too many bucks". Anyways good luck on your findings!

It sounds like the bullbuster Ted Steinke.
Too Many Bucks video was made before all the new techniques with computers.Back in the day it was very tough to edit videos.I have hunted that range with Ted after the video was produced and we did not see anything near the amount of deer he has on that video.Larry Jones and Dwight made a video also near the same area in Nevada back in the day these are the only 2 I can think of that you would be thinking of.Both great videos if you think of how hard it was to make them not using computers and the cameras were alot heavier to pack around and more expensive back then also.I often hear those old videos are a joke but with what those guys had to work with they still did a great job I think.Seems like anyone can produce a decent dvd now days.Decent mini d.v. camera, good computer and editing software and you are on your way.

Toole, It sounds like your looking for Dwights movie. Its the one were he blows the deer and they added the fawn bleep garbage. The deer looks down hill not back at him. Hmm. You sound like your looking for the part were the guy sets down his bow and the buck is right there looking at him. I spent some time in that neck of the woods when those videos were being made its not the same anymore. I missed some real toads back in those days.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-20-05 AT 02:10PM (MST)[p]Yep, sounds like "Too Many Bucks" to me. One of my all time favorites for sure. I remember watching that and the the old Fitzgerald "Passing Through" videos at about the same time.

Kudos to those guys putting out some amazing footage back then with the equipment they had available.

As far as it being a lot easier to do today, you're right-but good is good and bad is bad. There was some crappy stuff back then as well as good, and it's the same today.

The Rubys aren't what they were back in the day, but still a great place to arrow a deer.

The name of the movie you are looking for is called "Hunting Rocky Mountain Mule Deer". It is the video where Dwight Schuh and Larry D. ambush a group of bucks on their escape route and Dwight hits a four point "lacerating the liver". There is also a rifle hunt in the Salmon River Breaks. It is produced by Stoney-Wolf Productions. If you yahoo search Stoney-Wolf and go to their website you can buy it for $8.95.

"Too Many Bucks" is a different video with ol' red beard Ted Steinke and Dave Justmann. "The Bed. Capital T, capital H, capital E..." for those who have seen it, you know what I am talking about! It's great. They even edit out the elevation of the highest peak so that no one will know where they are hunting... Well, I do! It is filmed exclusively in Nevada and only contains archery hunts. Still a great video, but not what you are looking for. Anyway hope that helps. Goodluck.

I believe postcorner is right. "Hunting Rocky Mountan Mule Deer" This video also has a kid hunting in the snow with his dad. The kid ends up scooting his pack in front of him in the snow for a rest and ends up shooting a decent buck that was bedded down.
When I was a kid I used to rent this at the Weber County Library in Ogden all the time.

The thing I remember most about the "Too many bucks" video is that huge typical buck that they couldn't kill. That buck was so impressive. I loaned mine out and have never seen it again. Fun video...Steve

The big wide typical buck in TOO MANY BUCKS was killed that same year that he filmed that video but with a muzzleloader. That is one rough area, when I hunted it with Ted we used pack goats and made a spike camp by a snow drift so we could filter water. That area is one rugged son of a gun.The area that Larry and Dwight hunted was on the same range. Both videos were good material back in the day.I have heard that range is just not that good anymore for trophy deer?I dont know this for sure because I have never been back.STEEP SON OF A GUN.

I agree with DMCHUNTER the hunter was 10 yards from the buck when he put his bow down. I still hunt the area and it keeps me coming back.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-21-05 AT 11:09PM (MST)[p]I still have the video and watch it a couple times each year. Pretty amazing when both bachelor groups join together isn't it.

Got it! Hunting Rocky Mountain Mule Deer, gotta be one of the true classics, (1986). Stoney Wolf Productions,1-800-237-7583.

Thanks you guys, I'm going to buy it, it is one of the videos that really got me into hunting. I'm sure it is not as good as I remember (kind of like when I go back home to tooele the buildings just aren't as big or impressive as they were when I was a kid) but back then it was one heck of a video. Thanks again

Tooele

Is it also the one that the guy stalks down on the bedded buck and as he stands up, shoots his arrow right over his back? I think you can even see the arrow deflect off a rock behind the buck. Wouldn't mind watching that one again.
