I'm interested in speaking with anyone who is/has hunted this open bull unit during 2009. I'm taking my 13 year old son down for for his youth elk hunt...we scouted the area once but it was a month ago. Please send me a PM you're willing to talk.

Get a hold of the local G&F warden they been shooting cows and spikes out there so they should be able to tell ya where they have been spotlighting them. I hope this helps.

I hunted it. I did not see, hear or smell a single elk in 5 days of searching.

I worked Coal Bed canyon from Montezuma up to the Colorado boarder and there were only a few old tracks. I couldn't get into HorseHead canyon. All the land owners have that locked up. I tried to get into a few of the other areas from the top over by Eastland and it's all private land locked.

I'm sure there are some elk there somewhere, but I couldn't find them.

If you have some good intel, it might be worth the trip, but if not, I wouldn't waste your time.

Cheers,
Pete
