LAST EDITED ON Nov-27-05 AT 06:57PM (MST)[p]The Northern Brotherhood of Monster Muleys held their first annual BC Muley Camp. MattB, Steveo32, BCbucks, myself and 2 other muley crazy buddies set up camp in one of my topsecret hidey holes and we did er up right by putting 3 monsters on the ground.

Here's a buck I nicknamed Tall Timber. I was able to video this buck for over 15 mins at under 20 yards. My burping technique kept him rather focused. :)

I passed on Tall Timber because he had a weak G3 on the side behind the tree. Good thing my good buddy Thad knows a Big Buck when he sees one as 2 days later he dropped Tall Timber after a very long tracking session. This buck is amazing. It is 27 inches wide outside. It is 23 1/2 inches tall (using the Buckspy method). Even with short G3 this buck grosses 184. The strong side is a whopping 90 inches. Could you imagine if he had of been matched!!!

Steve:

Well, with the tough hunting conditions that many encountered this season, I knew we could count on our Northern brothers to come through. That's a sweet buck......looks cold there too. Congrats to you guys and thanks for posting.

You've already seen MattB's monster typical already in another thread, but for those that missed it, here it is again.
Matts183typical.jpg

Matt was the first to drop a buck and he set the bar pretty darn high for the rest of the group, but especially his brother Steve. Steve has been longing to top his brother for several years now. You see Matt is on quite a roll, with this most recent typical being the second one in as many years that grosses over 180. On top of that Matt took a great early season velvet buck this year as well. Steve spent the week passing up great buck after great buck looking for one that would make his brother drool. Every night he'd tell me he wanted a dropper buck. One day he got really lucky and found a cougar kill from last winter with a bunch of extras and a sweet dropper. Turned out I actually almost stepped on that rack the day previous. Lucky Ba$tard!!! Good thing for him I was actually filming Thad's buck instead of looking on the ground for sheds as he found it within feet of where I filmed Tall Timber. Also lucky for him, I had a shed off this same buck in my shed pile and me being a nice guy and all, I let him have it.

Steve was still passing up some great bucks when BCbucks and him spotted a monster double dropper chasing does. The buck went into a thick stand of conifers and Steve located Thad and myself and we all broke out the spotters and were able to relocate the buck again. Steve thought for sure I wanted in on the stalk, but I told him that I wanted to sit back and watch the action and hoped he was able to drop him. So BCbucks and Steve bailed down the hill and crossed a knee deep creek and started the stalk with Thad giving the hand signals and myself watching the buck. The buck came out of the conifers and layed a beating on a smaller 4 and then mounted a doe and did his thing. Thad and I were fighting for the spotter when that happened. :) The buck then went out of sight in the conifers. About a minute later the sound of Steve's rifle boomed and we heard the Cheering. A team effort and a 202 inch gross 9x9 with double drops was on the ground.

not bad at all--too bad about the one side--even so he'd be hard to pass on, but then again it's all down to the one who has him in his sights--chris

HOLY! Those are great BC bucks, I wish I could have found my self one close to those sizes this year. I came close to one with the bow that ranged 160's in the first week of September, but nothing after that. Congradulations

early to bed, early to rise, hunt like hell and make up lies!

That's rediculous! And so freakin AWESOME! Congrats, and I'm seriously thinking of trying to find a career that could take me to BC or Sask. lol

You boys north of the border are just sick and wrong!!! You guys did it up right!

I've tried the burping technique a few times, but the wife doesn't let me practice much anymore around the house:)

The week will go down as one of my best weeks of hunting ever!!! Nothing like sharing camp with great bunch of muley nuts and seeing monsters hit the dirt. We saw tons of great bucks. The biggest one was in the 225-230 range. Thus the reason I still have a tag. I've got 2 more weekends to get er done and will hold out till the last hour if need be. Have passed on numerous 180 typicals thus far, don't plan to cut my tag unless it is a TOAD!!! Having a yearling bull moose in the freezer certainly makes passing big bucks looking for that GIANT way easier. GO BIG OR GO HOME!!!!

Nice story line and great pics, thanks for taking us along with you. I like your attitude of go big or go home. Stick to it buddy.

I'll say it again, you northern boys are enjoying them glory days, like it was in Colorado back in the 50's & 60's, hope it stays that way for yah...

Those are some fantastic bucks, and some good stories to go with them! It's pretty neat that you managed to get pics of two of the bucks while they were still alive. Congrats to Thad, Steve and Matt, and good luck catching up to that 225+ non-typical! I can't wait to see some pictures of it on the ground.

Nice, very nice.....Go get em' BC! Would like to see you get that big boy, tired of seeing you with those little 180" bucks every year. :)

And they are both Freakin' Giants. :) Matt brought up some camo he had when he was 14 and figured my kids could grow into them. Well they fit me just perfect. :) :)

Like I said, definately one of the best hunts I've ever been on. How often do you see a lineup with that kind of quality taken DIY in a general season on public land? Seeing these success pics can be deceiving though. Don't think that it is a cake walk up here. None of these bucks came easy. There is no doubt each and every buck was very hard earned. Each buck was carried out in quarters on our backs in our packs. No quads or 4X4's or road hunting in this crew. And conditions were far from ideal. We had clear skys all week from the full moon that kept the deer bedded all day long. We all put on tons of leg miles pounding the thick crap trying to kick up bucks. We all dogged hawg tracks and were taken around in circles upon circles. The real rut didn't kick in until the last few days. Before that the bucks were just touring at night and then holding up in the thick timber all day. This area can be extremely hard to hunt. Typically there are very few deer sightings. I've gone weeks with only seeing a handful of deer. The thing is, when you see a buck, it normally is a Big 'Un. Most years I'm just praying the snow will pound the highcountry so that the bucks will actually show up. And even when we do get snow, alot of bucks come down at night, breed and then head straight back up before daylight. This year we had the unusual circumstances that the bucks didn't ever make it up to the high country. It was soooo wet and lush this summer they all chose to stay lower. It was frustrating trying to find big velvet bucks to video but I knew that it was going to work in our favor come the late season. I had my first hint of how good it was going to be back in late Oct when I kicked up a TRUE GIANT out of his bed in some thick timber. I only saw a glimpse of him but what I saw made my heart skip a beat. HUGE DEEP FORKS, MASS FROM HELL and TONS OF TRASH. I know he's still in there but haven't seen him again yet. Maybe, he'll be so kind to show himself to me before last light on the 10th. Another buck that we caught a glimpse of I believe to be a buck I call MassNTrash. It's a buck I've watched for 2 winters now on the same mountain. Last year he was a 10x9 that I judged to be in the 215-220 range. BCbucks caught him chasing a doe straight up a far ridge and then he became engulfed in fog. We glassed for him all day hoping he'd return for a couple hot does that we were watching but he never showed up again in daylight. BCbucks said he easy would be in the 225-230 range.
It would be nice to be able to find one of those 2 before the end but the rut is long over now. All the bucks are in the thickest crap imaginable resting up. The end of the season is always a tuff bugger to hunt. But even if I eat my tag I'll be happy as a pig in $hit. This hunt made my year.

Good job to you BC Boyz!

Do me a favor will ya?

Push some of them deer over into S.E. Alaska, will ya?

About Lat 58 would do just fine.

Thx.

MM

LMAO-"They could be twins"....the taxidermist thought Steve was me dropping off a 3rd muley this year! Steve had to explain to the guy that he was my brother...i cant believe he didnt realize that, i was just in there 3-4 days before Steve stopped in.
