I have the chance to go on a cow elk hunt for $1,000. It includes guide, food and cook and a place to stay if we want, tent or trailer. Is this a good price. Success is high.

Thanks

Does that include the cost of the license? An out of state license can be several hundred bucks, even for a cow tag.

sound ok to me if you wanna hunt cows! i dont thin k you will find a cow tag alone for under 300 and everything catered sounds like should be good deal!

?It takes a genius to whine appealingly.?

I spend about $1000.00 to go to Utah to hunt cows from Calif. By the time a buy the tag, gas, food, butchering, new gear it really starts to add up and this is do it yourself. I say go for it.

Reasonable price for a fully outfitted cow hunt including the tag. You could go cheaper on a DIY type hunt, but cow hunts can by tough if you aren't familiar with the area and if there is lots of hunting pressure. Hunting high success tribal lands with a guide and limited pressure will make the hunting more pleasant.

If you want to hunt cow elk on a regular basis you might want to invest a couple years into learning an area where you can get tags every year, but if the coin isn't an issue I say go for it.

I paid $250 last year. It did not include food or lodging, but I didn't need it. We got there at 9 am and were done by 2 pm. I could get you the contact # if interested. They do have lodging if needed at a real reasonable rate. They are located out near vernal.

I see this post was some time ago, do you still have the contact number or do you know if it is still available today

I can see it now.....

Client.....“Hey you still selling cow elk hunts for a grand, like you were over a decade ago?”

Outfitter.....”Nah, add another zero to that price and we’ll talk. But if ya wanna go jack rabbit hunting for a day, we can squeeze you in for a grand.”

So how can alp75 be a “very active member” since he hasn’t posted in 5 years? Pretty sure no one is going to hear on those $250 cow tags. Prove me wrong alp! ?

I'll take two of those 250 dollar cow elk tags. Just as long as they don't say 2009 on them ! :) I think inflation has taken them a little past the $250.00 dollar mark. I ran across a couple California hunters last year that bought land owner cow elk tags. They spent 1500.00 each plus everything else . No guide or out of state hunting license. Just permission to the the land owners property and two mile around the perimeter of the fence.

It's funny but Cow Elk hunts are the one hunt you can research your way to success fairly easily. Ya need to be willing to pay non resident cow elk tag cost if your not a western resident but overall it is very doable. Go the the state's game & fish website and look for these three things:

1. A unit that is made up of at least 80% public land
2. A unit that you can consistently draw a rifle cow elk tag within 1-4 years of putting in
3. Consistent success rate of greater than 50%

Find those things and you can have a great cow elk hunt on the cheap every few years. Put a couple states on rotation and always have that freezer full of elk

You used to be able to private message OR email people on here. Now just PM only. Email was good in these instances.

That is a good price if it is fare chase and has decent success. Look up NM cow elk ranch hunts, they are a lot more.
