I visit here frequently, but very rarely post. I had a successful year hunting, although I wish they could be bigger (who doesn't?). Got the little 6 pt whitetail in Ohio with a bow and the large fork horn muley in the Black Hills NF, just north of Sundance, WY. Now comes the fun part.... trying to post the pictures. Hope they turn out.

Way to go Dave!
In my opinion ANY oportunity at hunting deer is better than no tag! LOL

Congratulations on two bucks in one year. I'm sure you will be eating good this winter.

We saw mostly whitetail in BHNF. Certain areas (Warrens Peak) and in town LOL held muleys. All the bucks we saw were forks and spikes. Young bucks were following does, but I think it was too early. We hunted the Nov 6th to the 12th. A week later probably would have been better. Perhaps the big boys would have come out. Saw many decent whitetails at the local butcher and one 5x5 bull elk taken in the same area. Mine was the only mule deer I'd seen brought in. I'm getting better though, last year was a small fork, this ones a little bigger. Maybe some day a decent 4pt. Living the midwest, makes it a little hard to scout. I do my homework the best I can and learn a lot here on MM. Next year I'm going guided for elk in CO. I have been doing these DIY for four years and getting better all the time. Good hunting.

Whereabouts in OH are you from?
I came form a suburb of Columbus almost 7 years ago. Who are you going on the guided elk here next year?
Thanks for posting and congrats on the success. My wife was the only one that scored on a animal this year and boy was it a slammer buck!
Jeff

A good hunt is always good hunt, The size of buck doesn't matter. You had a good season.

Jeff - I currently live in Sandusky since '94. Originally from WI, thus the "cheesehead" name. My daughter is a JR at Ohio State. A local friend, a WI friend and I are going to CO unit 17, 3rd season in 2006. Outfitter is Rock Creek Outfitters, Bob Thompson. Heard a few good things about him. It is an over the counter license. I am however sending for preference points too. I have two for elk and deer. Feel free to email me at [email protected] . Dave

Sorry havent heard of Rock creek outfitters though unit 17 isnt terribly far from me. I live in Fort Collins. I have hunted 18 and 28 that is as close as it comes to the Walden area. I know some of the private land around Walden has some really good hunting for elk, deer and even antelope. Do you have any expectations or standards for the hunt?
Been to Cedar Point lately?
Jeff

good job. don't let chef around them deer. he'll wanna "marinate" em so's they taste like bear.

Jeff - do you have a picture of that slammer? Did you get him on public land? Rock Creek is near Rand. He has 2500 acres butted up to the Routte NF. He has a square mile sancutary he never goes into. He has blinds set up all around it. More like midwest hunting. Sit and wait. Not a lot of "out west" hard hunting. References I checked with have been very happy and successful.
Cedar Point changes every year. Gets old when you live here. Every 2-3 years we buy a season pass.

I posted a picture about a month ago in this forum entitled "wifes big CO buck" or something like that. I'll email you a couple pictures too if you cant find it.
We killed it on private land about 10 minutes from our place. My wife isnt a big hunter so I make things easy on her and she got super lucky this year! She shot a forky on the property last year 5 months pregnant and then shot a monster this year.
I have only driven through Rand once, man is it pretty, you'll love it!
Jeff
