Over labor day weekend we hunted hard and seen a lot of bulls, but nothing that got the hart pumping until Sunday night. I took my 5 year old son with me that night and hiked into our spot and waited he was getting bored and kept asking where the elk were and I just told him to be patient it was still to early. About five minutes later I spotted a bear on the hill side and after a minute my son was able to spot it and I gave him my glasses and never got them back until the bear was gone.
My brother kept throwing pine cones at him so he would gather a bunch up and throw them back so that made the time go by a little faster. As it started to get later the bulls started bugling and we spotted a nice 6x6. I got seperated from my son and my brother for a few minites and while I was gone they called a smaller 6 point right to them he was pretty amazed. We finaly got the cows from the nice 6 point to come to us but the bull stayed just out of range and just like that it was dark. The next morning we went back to the same spot, but my son didn't make the trip. We were in there way before daylight and the bulls were screaming. As day light came we had bulls screaming all around us but nothing to big until were heard A deep bugle we worked toward him and hit the cow call and he screamed right back. My brother ran to the trees and I droped to my knees and here he came. All I could see was dark horns and mass and when he stepped out I saw a big whale tail. My first thought was were is your sixth point, but he didn't have one he was a big massive 5x5. I thought about passing him up, but I just couldn't do it he was to heavy and I liked his whale tail. My brother hit the cow call and he kept coming when he went behind a tree I drew back and waited for him to come out. He came out and stopped perfect and I let one fly. The arrow went right threw him and he jumped and ran toward my brother. He hit his cow call agine and the bull stopped and I was already drew back and hit him with the second arrow. Then he went out of site. When my brother came up to me and he was more excited them me and said that is a big bull I told him it was but he was only a five point and who cares he is huge. I told him there wouldn't be any ground shrinkage for sure. After 45 minutes we started trailing him it wasn't the easist blood trail but we found him in a sage brush flat where he laid down and died.
