COW CALL?WHEN THEY ARNT BUGLEING.

how many of you would suggest cow calling,when the bulls arnt doin much bugleing,do the bulls sometimes come in totally silent.and how long do you suggest waiting at location you are cow calling from

If it helps, I was in NM last week and took a long hike trying to locate some elk. My dad had planned on picking me up a few hours later a few miles down the road. As I was getting closer, he started bugling every now and than to let me know where he was. In between bugles, he was cow calling. He probably only bugled 3-4 times over a course of 30 minutes. As he was waiting, a 5x6 came in within 12 yards of him, never made a peep. For that matter, nothing was talkingthe entire 5 days I was there. So yes, they will come in and they will come in silent a times.

Elk talk all twelve months of the year, as in cow calling. It is very normal and they expect to hear it.
