Okay, I've put this off for far too long. This is my first kill with a bow, second elk overall. Bull was taken in the Book Cliffs Roadless area (very difficult archery hunt) unguided. My dad called him in to 20 yards. We tracked him all day long, over 2 miles through thick timber. We found him 4 days later, which was the last day of the hunt. My brother also helped out.

First, beautiful bull, and excellent job! He's got a lot of character and you'll have some stories to tell looking at those antlers.

And my hat's off to you for sticking to it! I, too, have had bad hits on animals and I know how the tracking goes and how it makes you feel inside. Four days? You're the man. That's dedication. Kudos to you.

Thanks,
I don't know if I should take credit for 4 days though, I had to go back to work for a day and a half. On the forth day we picked up where we left off, eventually finding him. All together, the three of us spent close to 12 hours each tracking this bull.

That is a cool bull. Great job recovering him, and congrats on a stud. Love the mass and great fronts.

CONGRATS again!!! You definetely put in the time and work to get that great bull. What a great trophy. He will look awesome on the wall. It was good to meet you and am happy that you had a good hunt. BTW, our second hunter finally scored on Fri afternooon. Not as big as the first one, but scored about 345. again, nice job!! You earned that one...

Jason,
You're a credit to the bow game for hanging in there. Our game requires so much perfection, which circumstances generally will generally not allow us to meet most of the time, that a miss of just an inch spells the difference between a 40 yd death run or a 4 day tracking job (which 99.9% of hunters can't or won't do). My hats off to you bro! Obviously you're a guy who believes once you draw blood, you're done, a credo I think all of us should have. It is not fun wounding an animal and it takes hard work and perseverence to track and bring an animal as tough as a mature bull elk down to ground.

P.S. - That is a gorgeous toad bull you got there. Memories!!!!Congrats!!!!

Congrats on an awesome looking bull. Way to stick with it, that says a lot in my opinion. Once again, great bull.

Thanks Jared, it was great to meet you and your dad. I appreciate all your tips, you were a big help. That's good to hear that your other hunter was able to fill his tag, it's tough huntin when it is this hot. I can't wait to see the pics.

Jason

Speaking of missing by an inch, I believe I did just that. My shot looked to be exactly where it should be, but this bull just kept going and going. There's no way for me to know if I hit vitals or not, because that was all gone when I found him. I just hope that next time it will be obvious, and I can put it down right away.

Jason

Anyone care to guess the score?
I'll post the score tomorrow or the next day for anyone who's interested.

Jason

The fact that you are smiling in the picture next to the sure stinch of a 4 day dead elk is amazing!

Congratulations on a great bull!!

The stench was almost unbearable, but even so, I was probably more excited than I've ever been. I was jumping around and doing victory dances! It felt so good to finally find my bull, on the last day of season, after all the work we put into the hunt and the search.

Jason

Good job man congrats on the bull! I was waiting for the call to bring the horses... Sounded like a great hunt with a bull anyone would be proud of! congrats.

Jason,
Congrats on a dandy bull that you can be proud of, your drive and focus has given you the trophy that you were after. Thanks for posting such a fantastic bull.

Congrats again Jason. You deserve it! I just wish you still lived and worked up here. I don't have anyone to chat huntin' with anymore!

I can't guess on the score since I already know it.

Kenny,
Hopefully you can drag my elk out next year, that is if I'm lucky enough to stick an arrow in another one.

Stefan,
I've been wondering what your login was, I'm ready to go shed huntin as soon as they start droppin! I'm looking forward to going again. I still need to show you the last set we found.

Jason

Wow, news travels fast. This was posted only five hours after our son was born, and I don't even know who posted it. Thanks AR37, whoever you may be...

Great Bull! There is nothing worse than loosing a animal. Congrats to you for not giving up.

McCade, thanks man, you'll have to come check it out next time you are in Vernal. I haven't taken it to the taxi yet because I'm trying to find a cape for it.

Jason

Dang dude! looks like a woodpecker went to town on your horns. I hate it when they peck for worms on my bulls. LOL. what r those holes from.

silly liberals, paychecks are for workers!

No holes, the antlers are in good shape. I think you are talking about the little black spots? Those would be flies... they were everywhere, it was pretty stinky to say the least.
