Can anyone around these areas tell me about the hunting quality? Private vs. Public land, deer concentrations, access, etc.

Thanks,
Blair

I suggest you PM ICMDEER. He knows the area. I have hunted the Medicine Bow NF a couple of times in J. 3 of us had a decent DIY hunt in 2000. 2 of 3 killed bucks. One was a decent 4 X 4. I passed on a couple of small bucks. Lots and lots of hunters on 4-wheelers and close to the roads. I hunted again in 2003 and saw lots of deer before the season opened but never saw a deer after the first day. Way too many hunters IMO. I have seen plenty of great looking muley bucks at meat processors and almost all came from private property. The last time I talked to landowers in J, access to private property would cost you at least $1500. If you can get onto private property in J, you can probably take a nice muley.

I hunted public land in J last year and was very dissapointed with the quality of the deer I saw. 10 days and I only saw one decent buck. WAY too many quads driving around. I wouldn't go back there unless I had some private land secured.

Well stated in both replies. I would not consider hunting any public land in either J or T for deer. There just are not any trophy bucks, or even quality bucks. With good management, trophy quality can be had, but there's way too much pressure on the public ground to hunt it. The bucks have virtually no chance to reach maturity.

There are some good bucks on the private ground. Our best 2005 buck was scored by a B&C measurer at 195 and 5/8 this year, plus several others close to him. But as stated, the price goes up. You can look the deer on our website at www.triplecreekhunts.com and all bucks taken in 2005 are there. It'll give you a good idea of the potential.

If you want info on some other Wyoming options, shoot me a PM. I will try to help.
