Spike Hunting?

Bought my first spike bull tag this year and wanted to get a few tips on how to target the spikes. I've heard that the spikes tend to hangout with the herds of cows and bigger bulls. But then I also heard that during rutting season the bulls chase the spikes away from the cows. When the UT season opens Oct 3 should I be targeting the herds to spot me a spike or are they still being chased away by the big boys and found alone. Also, can elk calls be used to help as well? Thanks in advance for your help.

Some years if the rut is pushing late you will see them with the other satilight bulls. However generally on the Fishlake the spikes are in with the cows or on the edges of the herd. Good Luck and have fun!

I was AMAZED at the # of spikes I saw this year while scouting and hunting. It seemed every time I went out I saw 2-4 spikes morning or evening. I also had numerous spikes on my trail cams-way more than previous years. Not sure why there were more this year, but there was definitely a difference.

I was primarily seeing spikes in with the herds of cows or just on the fringes of the herds once the big bulls started moving in with the herds. The big bulls don't seem as concerned with the spikes but they will chase them off now and again.
