Looks like it's that time of the century again for the UDWR to shut down a mountain range for 7-8 years so the state can boast of some good hunting. The Paunsaugaunt is slowing down, the Book Cliffs have been open for several years as well. What range in Utah do you think would make the most likely area for the state to close down to artificially jack up buck/doe ratios and make us all think that we're getting our moneys worth and the program is on track ?

I understand quite a few nice bucks were bagged on the Paunsaugunt this year, some from each hunt, especially the archery and muzzleloader hunts.

If they shut down the hunt in a certain unit, does that mean the state is "artificially" jacking-up buck-doe ratios? I'm curious how you think the state can "naturally" jack-up the ratios. I can think of many units that could use less tags, where do I start?

I HAD THE OPPURTUNITY TO HUNT THE PAUNS THIS YEAR WITH SOME FAMILY AND I PERSONALLY WAS DISAPPOINTED WITH THE AREA. THE NUMBERS WERE NOT THERE BOTH BUCKS AND DOES. THE ONLY PROBLEM I SEE IS THAT IF THEY SHUT IT DOWN FOR A FEW YEARS I DON'T SEE THE NUMBERS BEING EFFECTED THAT MUCH TO MAKE IT WORTH IT. I ALSO HEARD OF A LOT OF GOOD DEAR BEING SHOT BUT I THINK THAT THE MAJORITY WERE TAKEN ON PRIVATE LAND.
