3pt scoring question

Jackelope,
No, it's not true. He just has no G-3's. All that happens for the official score is that in order to take the H-3 (circumference), it is taken halfway between the main beam (start of the G-2) and the tip of the G-2. Nice buck.

It will be scored, just no value on the G-3. For mass I was told to take the G2 lenght, divide in 1/2 and double the mass measurement at that point.

When in doubt, floor it.

Diplomacy is the art of saying "nice doggy" until you find a big stick.

That's not exactly true. A 3-point rack configuration can be measured officially, as it's done all the time with Columbia Blacktail. However, the B&C measurer is probably correct, as almost ALL 3 point mule deer will never score high enough for the 190" minimum. VERY few have made the 180" awards minimum. From the looks of the photo link provided, it's a very nice buck. Unfortunately, if killed by a firearm, it will not make the minimum needed for the B&C record book.

Is this an archery kill? I have seen and measured some tremendous 3-point bucks that made the archery minimum for P&Y. If so, it should be measured by a P&Y measurer, as it may make the minimum score of 145".

Hope it helps and congratulations to your bud on a nice buck.

Not true. He will lack a G-3 measurement, but otherwise will be scored the same as a typical four point. The H-3 measurement will be taken halfway between the base of the G-2 and the tip of the G-2.

It is a great buck, so who cares? Check out my 3 point buck, "CO 3 Point Buck" posted below. I rough scored him at a bit over 190 gross (using the 1/2 way up guess for the circumfrence), but now have the antlers coated with fake velvet and it is at the taxidermist, so I'll never know the official score.
