Been doing a little research for Wyoming next year and wondering what you guys think/know about region R. I don't want hotspots just general info. By looking at demands/harvest reports it looks like a pretty good area. What do you guys think???

The region covers the north western slope of the Big Horns.

There was no indication in the App booklet that there was difficult public access. There are also many other regions with 100% draw odds because of the private land, this one is around 75% for non-residents. While I'm sure there is some private land, most of this region looks to be in national forest. Do you live near there Skunkterd?? Maybe I'm mistaken.

Watch out to be sure there is not "Wilderness area" if so, that area requires a guide for non-resident. You can get around that rule by having a local going in with you after he obtains a free tempory guide license.

I have been hunting Region R since 1998. There is a lot of public land, and there are also a lot of hunters. Since it is a general area it receives a lot of pressure from resident hunters. Deer densities are highest in the northern part of the unit. Tom Easterly is the biologist that handles this region for Game and Fish. If you call him he can give you all of the harvest statistics including; densities, buck/doe ratios, etc. The west side of the Cloud Peak Wilderness is also in this unit, as stated previously you must be hunting with an outfitter or accompanied by a resident that has obtained a resident guide permit. Trophy bucks are rare in this unit due to the amount of hunting pressure, but if you are just looking for a fun hunt with the opportunity to see some deer and some gorgeous country than it might be the place.

Thanks for the info. Thats basically what we're looking for. My father-in-law is a native and he'll be with us. We're looking more for the cahnce to hunt versus trophy animals. Thanks again!!!
