This guy had rutted alot of pounds off. He would have probably weighed around 300 pounds pre-rut. Older deer in this part of Montana usually have torn ears and alot of hair missing/scars from their battles, this guy was no exception. My pal caught him crossing a drainage with about 6 does and was able to get to around 225 yards before downing him as he was walking behind a doe. Nice character with the eye guards and will make a very sweet mount. I always wear alot of orange. Easier to have an airplane find me and as well as back east, far less chance of being mistaken for horns yet it happens far too many times every year. Besides, deer can't decipher orange!

This is a picture of the 4 x 4 buck I took the day after i killed him when we went back in 3 miles to get him out. No eye guards on him. Two things about this particular deer I will never forget. One, when we got back the next morning to retrieve him there was deer hair all over the place. I wish i would have taken a picture of it. The smaller buck that was with him had been back that night and come up and horned him silly in the rump as he lay there dead. Nothing like trying to get even with your old pal when you have all his does to tend!!! The other thing was when I left this spot to head back to my rig I came across an old airplane crash from many years ago. Very chilling to see the prop, wings and tail still there with so much aluminum that won't rust. The pilot died there.

Baiting is a signficant condemnation of a shooters ability to hunt.

Nice bucks.

Baiting is a legitimate resourse tool used in game management by legal hunters, same as trapping. Trapping takes even less ability on the shooters part.

Why don't you worry about the anti's and leave the legal hunters alone.

where bouts in montana were you. That airplane sounds familiar, it wasnt circle area was it.

Your right....that will make a sweet mount! Both of those are perfect examples of whats runnin' around over there. Congrats to ya both.
