Hunted the Fishlake with "Hightop Outfitters" on a Muzzy tag. It was a great hunt. All I wanted was a fun time hunting rutting bulls and the opportunity to take a respectable 6 X 6. I would have liked to have waited for a Monroe or Dutton tag but wanted to hunt now not 6-8 years from now. I had planned on a DIY hunt but changed my mind after my partner was unable to make the trip. We scouted for two days and saw several elk but we were surprised at the amount of smaller bulls herding several cows. We chalked this up to the heard bulls being taken during the rifle hunt. After passing a few bulls on opening day we got a shot on this bull on the second morning. He was running with about 15 cows and two rag horn 5x5s. After about 40 minutes he came into about 25 yards and I was able to take him. Thanks goes out to Shawn at Hightop who new all the hot spots and helped me experience a great hunt.

That is awesome! Sure seems like the hunters with High Top are happy.

Glad you got a bull you were happy with and had a good experience.

Hope you saved me a few big ones to look over!
Congrats! Looks like you have a good time and glad that HighTop was there to help you out...They are a good bunch!

I am sure we left bigger bulls on the MNT. You and the rest of the late hunters should have a great hunt. When does the late hunt start?

GREAT BULL, ENJOYED MEETING YOU IN CAMP (BILL'S DAD). WISHED I COULD HAVE BEEN THERE FOR THE OPENING. I KNOW THAT BILL AND SHAUN ENJOYED MEETING AND GUIDING YOU.

I believe it is the 7th of November...
There are still some good bulls hanging around...
Just need to get them tied up

Likewise here. Bill and Shaun were a lot of fun. Hope to tie up with them again in the future. Send me a PM with your email so we can talk about Colorado.

PS
Now I need to hold out next time for a "Great Bull" like you shot this year. I have to believe they only come around once in 100 peoples lifetime.

Congrats on a great elk hunt and a dandy bull.

There's room for all of God's creatures, right next to the mashed potato's and gravy.

I appreciate a hunter that takes pride in his kill, regardless of size. It's respectful to the animal that's killed and to us as a body of ethical hunters. Your bull is a great bull and met your 6 point standard; but more importantly, you had a great time being in the hills hunting and watching one of Gods most majestic animals during the rut. I think at times we put such a high standard on ourselves with the size of animal we kill, that the hunt becomes more of a job than a pleasure. That's not to say that people hunting for a trophy animal are missing the mark and not having fun. We just need to keep it real as individual hunters working to harvest the type of animal we want and enjoy the ride! You will think back more on the good people you hunted with and the memories made while in the field, than the inches your bull scored or didn't score because of "tag soup". Thanks for sharing a picture and expressing your thoughts on the great time you had. Hope you have many more!

Thanks for the nice comments. You hit it right on the head. I shipped the antlers by UPS to my home after the hunt and they arrived today safely. As I unwrapped them I just sat back and recalled the hunt with a big smile on my face. He is a nice size for a mount and will look good next to other trophys I have been fortuately to take over the years. Here's another shot that show his fronts.
