I dont suppose you had you digital with you when you saw this big boy? You got me all foaming at the mouth waiting for a pic.

40" muleys are alot like UFO's, no one ever has a camera when they see one. Please tell us you are waiting to get the film developed....

No camera I had my 25-06 trailing a cow for my friend, camera was in the truck, It was a bummer not to get a pict but I will always see him in my dreams. This area we hunted borders the Jic Indiam rez. I have seen a pile of big bucks but never one this wide. My bro in law has a 33" 7x9 on his wall. This buck was wider, but not bigger. Maby I will draw a tag next year and I can show you a pict of me holding him. Odds of seeing him again are slim but who knows.

Michael~All Gods creatures welcome... right next to the mashed potatoes and gravy.

Ya never know maby one day I will draw a tag and go after him, I think alot about that buck. The next time we meet hopefully I will have my handy dandy ruger m77 25-06 with 110gr accubonds and put the smack down on him. But who knows he did not get that big by being stupid.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-02-06 AT 06:18PM (MST)[p]I Love 40" bucks.
They sure are pretty.
Would give anything to see one in real life. The one Elusive Western big game trophy I haven't seen.

That is a nice wide buck, the one I saw was alot lower horned, It had those square horns the kind that look like they come straight out of the side of his head, and turn straight up towards the sky. He was not real tall at least not compared to his width. He did not seem to be real massive either, But I did not get to touch them either. Well maby this year common draw! Again nice buck. Later fellers

If I had a rack like that in my possession there wouldn't be any dust on it.

I'm guessing taxidermy wasn't up to todays standards back in the 50's when that buck was taken. He sure is nice. I too wouldn't have dust on him.

riverdog,

What is that fine line around the right antler real close to the base??

Looks like that mount has seen better days, should have been kept in doors. James, you need to get a better cape and have that rack redone or someone should, too nice to be out "in the shop" for dust and bugs to ruin the cape.

A friend of mine has a B&C NT that is not allowed inside his house on the wall, his wife and daughter are against it. So Herm keeps it on the wall in his "old barber shop" so it has a place. Women, can't live with them and can't live without them sure has some truth to it. LOL

Never have seen a 40 inch mule deer. From California you will be seeing a 39 inch in the magazine. It was killed in the late hunt called Goodale hunt, this year. Also a 37 inch killed, in the same hunt, have not seem any pictures on this buck yet. First buck was 11 x 13. Mike

When I was much younger, I got to hang on to this 42" monster taken years ago in Idaho.
Sorry about photo quality)

This muzzle loader season in Az I saw a 40" 3x4 also I was unable to get into position to get a shot.It looked like he was hound doggin' just on the move with hise nose to the ground.I shot a 33" 3x3 this year and that buck I saw was a whole lot wider than the I shot.

I saw one once....

One time I saw a 40" buck in the wild, I was taking a Dump and my pants were around my anckles and the 30.30 was 10.4 feet away from me as this awesome critter walked by. I think I was Grunting it in or something. Anyways, I rough scored it and the Outside width was a WOPPING 40 6/8" spread with the inside spread of only 29 0/8. MAN I wish I had my rifle on me instead of my gun.

Kudos to everyone that has seen one !!!!
