What are the best Units And season to apply for a trophy 200 class mule deer in Colorado for the 2006 season?

Things just keep getting funnier and funnier around here. I need to lay off the theraflu!

Good luck 3337!

Funny thing is that it never hurts to ask? Colorado is changing the Non- resident quota by about half now that I have saved enough points for a great hunt!

I you can prove you arent one of the guys driving up the req points by only applying for points every year, I will be glad to give you some direction but I dont want to help people that use the colorado DOW's point only application option and dont know anything but they want to hunt here someday.

Prism,

Thanks for the info and I just started to get up to par on the Colorado posts. Not a problem; no pun intended. Thanks, Todd

I have hunted Colorado a couple of years when lucky enough to get a left over or 2nd chance Draw. Both times I ended up eating my tags since I didn't see anything worth shooting. The unit that I have been applying for takes about 10 pts to draw and has recently been affected by CWD and I haven't been over to do any scouting for a couple of years to see how the big bucks have faired. I have several 30"+ bucks on video from a couple years ago. Thanks!

Sent you a pm.

Your first post from a guy with 6 posts begs for a sarcastic answer. You have to either build relationships or let us know somehow you have paid your dues, likes your last post alludes to.

txhunter58 Thanks for the tip I well do my research! first thing I need is a little luck in the drawings. We all know it takes a lot of scouting and research just to locate the animals in a unit and this even changes from year to year do to weather and a whole lot of other factors.
Thanks 3337deer

A lot of these blow hards think every area in Colorado is super secret. Check out the DOW stats. The area's that require the most points will give you some good starting points. I'd call the DOW and teack down some biologists and warden's. For a fee, Garth and Eastman will provide good info. Check out B & C's record books and see where the big ones have been coming from the last few years...

Huff/puff, huff/puff, huff/puff.

I do blow hard when I climb the mountains of Colorado.

It's not just what unit to hunt, but what season to hunt? There are some high country hunts that you can draw with that many points, but you need to be in excellent condition or have horses or both. Great muzzle loader seasons also...Steve

I wish I could help, but I am in a totally different boat. This past year I used my 2 points to hunt an area and took a great buck, but now I am starting over at 0. I do however have 7 elk points and am curious to see how things go with the nonresident changes. The best advice that I could give would be to purchase the monster bucks information at the top of the home page here. Some good info is there to atleast get you started. Good Luck.

Hey,
I don't have any suggestions for you yet, but thought maybe the two of us could help each other out. I am new to this site, and just posted my own message "desperate for a big buck". Like you I have 10 preference points and am at a loss as to what to do next year, but definitely want a chance a a 200 class buck. Have you looked at some of the RFW areas. I know that some of them would have that kind of opportunity for us, but it is hard to predict how many points are needed for some of the real good ranches, and it always seems that I am 1 or 2 short. Let me know what you find out and I will share any responses I get. my email address is [email protected]

BVB,

I hunted Crazy French RFW a few years ago for Deer. Ranch rules are stacked against you getting into a good spot before 0800. I'd strike that one from your thoughts if it was in them.
