Problems with Cabela's?

Has anyone out there had problems with Cabela's? I went to the store in Buda, Tx. The people working in the archery department were beginner level at best. I do not claim to have that much knowledge of new equipment, but I was asking basic questions that couldn't be answered. I waited 20 minutes on friday the 16th to even speak to somebody in the archery dept. at about 11am, then the person couldn't answer my questions about what was going on. The website said there was a seminar at 11:30am but when I got there they had cancelled it and nobody knew anything about it. An hour drive down was frustrating to deal with morons behind the counter. While finally in line to check out we had two different lines stop moving and call for a manager because they didn't know what they were doing behind the register. Finally had another register open up and she asked us to step over since we were next, she then took 8 minutes to get the register up and running, while the 2 couples that were behind us had checked out and left the store.
What a frustrating trip!

Went to Sportsmans Wharehouse in Round Rock,Tx and enjoyed the trip. Knowledgable staff and quick lines were great. I am always hearing complaints about sportman's, but I would go back there before going to Cabela's.

Kind of sounds like Wal-Mart. I love stopping by the sporting goods while there just to screw with them and give them some knowledge.
Unfortunately I don't have the convenience of going to my local Cabelas as it's almost a day drive to get there and I still haven't been to our new Sportmans Warehouse and that's only two hours away. Guess I'll find out what kind of knowledgable staff they have there after Christmas.

Sounds as if they're having grand opening problems...I love Cabela's and wouldn't shop anywhere else. I lived in Cheyenne for 7 years and their store in Sidney was 100 miles away. Mind you this was their first store so they have had a chance to work out the mis-fits. I have yet to visit a Sportman's Warehouse but have heard nothing but good things. I lived in DC for 5 years and I'm here tell you that nothing compares to ##### and Ed Cabela's stores. I think if you give it time you'll love Cabela's, if they can get a good staff working for them in that area. If you think your visit was bad, go to Bass Pro in Baltimore.

I've been to the store in sydney, nebraska and had great service and a good time. The facility in buda was first rate, it's the idiots working there that screwed it up!

Sportsmans in washington have seem to knoww what their talking about when I asked them questions. Never been to a Cabelas so i can't compare.

I HAD PROBLEMS THE FIRST TWO TIMES I WENT TO THE LEHI/ALPINE CABELA'S!!!

STRIKE # 1

THE FIRST TRIP I WAS LOOKING FOR SOME LEUPOLD DUAL DOVE TAIL RINGS & BASES IN SILVER FINISH!!!

THIS JOKER DIDN'T HAVE A CLUE!!!

STRIKE # 2

THE NEXT TRIP IN I THINK I GOT A JOKER FIRED!!!

ASKED HIM TO CHECK STOCK FOR AN ITEM I WAS LOOKING FOR,HE WALKED THROUGH A DOOR & 2 SECONDS LATER HE WALKS BACK THROUGH THE SAME DOOR CLAIMING EVERYTHING IN STOCK HAD NAMES ALREADY ON THEM,ME & THE MANAGER HAD A FEW WORDS!!!

TRIP # 3

I WAS IN THE ARCHERY SECTION AND A GUY HELPED ME THAT KNEW WHAT WAS GOING ON,THE PRICES WERE ALOT MORE REASONABLE THAN THE OTHER TIMES I'VE BEEN THERE OR MAYBE THE 'OFF' SEASON FOR ARCHERY EQUIPMENT WAS ON!!!

I SWEAR IF I'D OF STRUCK OUT ON THE 3RD TRIP I'D OF NEVER WENT BACK!!!

MIGHT BE SOME 'BUDDY OF A BUDDIES OF A BUDDIES' HIRING GOING ON I DON'T KNOW???

IF YOU'RE HIRED TO SELL SCOPES,YOU SHOULD KNOW WHAT A SCOPE IS,RIGHT???

THE ONLY bobcat GRITTING HIS TEETH WHEN WALKING INTO SOME OF THESE STORES!!!

LAST EDITED ON Dec-26-05 AT 09:00AM (MST)[p]I order all my hunting equipment from Cabelas. If I had the same problems you fellas had I would be sending emails with my complaints.

There is a reason companies like Mathews Archery will not let a big box store sell their product.

I called Gander Mountain today,(since they're just down the road)and asked to speak to somebody in the archery department. I asked if they carried "Winner's Choice" bowstrings in stock or if it was special order. The guy had no clue what I was talking about! How can you work in an archery department if you have never heard about the leader in bowstrings. I explained it three times and he still had no clue, said he had never heard of "winner's choice". Yeah, I want that guy working on my bow-- or giving me advice on anything!!! I definitely won't be using gander for anything in archery.

Whenever you go to one of the "big stores", if you expect to find extremely knowledgable sales staff, especially in the archery section, then your as clueless as they are!!!
Go to a pro shop, or a small operation where their knowledge keeps them in business, not discount prices!!!

Just how muck knowledge can you expect in a big store for what they are paying in salary? I might think a guy who opens up a little store could be there for the interest, but the guy in a big store is more likely just looking for a paycheck.

Like to buy clothing and high ticket items from cabelas because there return policy is impeccable. I buy alot of my muzzy stuff and general shooting stuff from Sportsmans. I will admit that since cabelas has come to town, Sportsmans has stepped up their service big time.

After many great service experiences with Cabelas I will not be buying much from them in the future. I have an Alasken Outfitters pack and this past season a couple buckles and a couple of the bolts.. I called them to get replacements.. They wouldn't do it. Said I had to send the pack in. I couldn't believe it. Service has gone waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down hill. Too bad.
