I don't hunt Utah?s OTC any bull general rifle elk hunt. Too many people and no elk. My brother on the other hand, after years away from hunting , wanted to enjoy the mountains this year and chase elk. I tried to tell him, I really did, ?there aint no elk on public land during the general elk hunt.? He wanted to get out anyway and bought a tag. I sent him up on Monte Cristo with the million other people and sent him to an out of the way place I would hunt if I had to. I was hoping he'd at least see a cow and maybe, just maybe, if he got real lucky a dumb spike would be hanging around.

We'll about noon Saturday my phone rings. Dad says get your horses up here, your brother?s got one down. I think he's just joke?n with me. Then he has the nerve to try and tell me it was a 6 point! Freak! Now I know he's full of it. You get the idea?..

?..Anyway, long story short, he beat all odds and took a great general season bull, on public land, at 80 yards, with one shot, the one and only round he's fired at any game in a long time. Unbelievable!!! I couldn't be happier for him. I told him he better drive straight to Idaho and by a lotto ticket with that kind of luck.

Enjoyed a nice Saturday afternoon ride and was able to try out my new horse that I've never had game one. She did great, didn't blink an eye at quarters, carcass, or even a slipped saddle. Couldn't be happier with her!

Congrats to your brother on a nice bull. You never know what is going to happen!! Got to love it!

Nice bull!! I hunted that area about 8 years ago on the general deer hunt after at the last minute I was unable to hunt some private property I had planned to hunt. Well noon on the first day I shot a very nice 4 x 4 that went 26". The guy that took me up there was more ecxcited than I was. I was loiving in CA at the time and never been up to Monti Cristo before.

Only elk they'd seen all day. That bull knew exaclty where he was going. Headed straight for private property. Another 1/2 mile and he'd a been safe.
