Here are a couple more pictures from our 2005 Book Cliffs hunt. My dad shot his on Friday night, the last night we were going to be hunting. Because time was short, he took this buck despite it being a 3x4. Still a nice buck.

This is just a pic of our deer before we headed home. I cant wait to draw out there again!

Hi there guys,

By looking at the previous years odd's
In 2004 nearly everyone with 5 points was succesfull.
In 2005 everyone with 6 points was succesfull.
I should be sitting real good with 6 points for 06'

I hope luck will shine on me next year

Thanx,

Lies.

I had 6pts in 2004 and did not draw... and I talked to alot of guys out there hunting and they all had 7pts to draw this year and had been putting in nonstop for Books. No way "nearly everyone with 5pts was successful" in 2004 when guys with SIX points failed to draw, myself included. I strongly doubt everyone with 7pts drew this year after looking at the odds.

From the 2006 proclaimation:

4,157 residents tried to draw 274 tags (rifle).
968 non-residents tried to draw 31 tags (rifle)

Yes with 6pts you should have a better shot but IMO, you are 2 years off or possibly 3 from the guarenteed tag there. The remainder of the 7 pt crowd will be putting in with their now 8pts and the entire tier of guys with 6pts will be putting in with 7. This assumes people with 8, 9 heck even 10pts dont give up on a Henerys tag and put in for the books.

You are sitting great compared to the 3000 or so behind you.

>I hope luck will shine on
>me next year

I wish you luck too, its a great hunt.

Are we a little cranky today dallan???

In 2004 the unit was split into 2-subunits.
So what you are saying could be true if you applied for the southern sub-unit.
I was quoting the numbers from the Bitter/Little-creek area for the 2004 year.

Here is the 2005 drawing odd's link.
I believe page 14 is where you want to be.

Ps: Dallan please use some discreation before calling someone a liar.

My dad and I both drew Book Cliffs in 2000, with zero points. First and only time we've ever applied for any Utah hunt. Sounds like it's getting more difficult to draw!

Congratulations on a successful hunt.
Only one thing better than hunting with Pops...
That's both of you tagging out!

No problem.
No offense taken.

I guess we both owe Gizzmoose an apology, for tainting his post.
Great pics Grizzmoose, looks like a great hunt.
I hope to be in your shoes next year.
How many points did you guy's have?

Thanx

No apology necessary. Seems like most posts get sidetracked sooner or later. Ive had difficulty reading the odds sheet myself. Ill rely on luck more than odds anyways.

And Chef, you are right, hanging out with the old man makes for a great time. My younger brother had a tag with us as well which made for an even greater time. Too bad he couldnt have stayed out with us longer!

Grizzmoose,

Did you see many deer in your location???
Do you feel the area is better now than the first time you hunted it???

Happy New Year,

Thanx,
Snuffer

Congrats to you both. Those are memories that will last a lifetime. I can't help but noticed you must have went and geared up at Cabela's before the hunt.........Titliest Cap, Eddie Baur Sweatshirt, shorts, and tenny runners to complete the deal! Sweet! Just having fun. :)
Congrats again!

Grizzmoose:
Great bucks man.... One of my buddies and his dad drew this year as well for the Book Cliffs and I kid you not his buck looks identical to yours and his dad killed a 3x4 that is very similar to your dad's.... Crazy!!!
Anyways congrats to ya'll on what sounds and looks like a great hunt this year.

Haha. . .I wondered how long it would be before someone gave me a little crap for my stylish attire. Truth is. . . I slept in the shirt and shorts and threw the cap on so no one would see my killer hat hair. I have no idea how my tennis shoes made it up there!

As far as the deer in the area go, I thought it was better this year than it was in 2002. I saw 3 times the amount of deer, but they were quite a bit more concentrated this time. I again noticed the common 3x4 gene there, but really no more abundant this time than in 02. We did see a great buck that was probably 190ish the night before the hunt. An oil worker scored a buck at 200+ non typical and told us where he hangs out, but we only saw his tracks. I know there are some great deer out there, but I need more experience to find them. I was more than happy with what I came out with.

Sometime those last minute deer are funny, To bad your brother didn't get to hunt that unit for the whole hunt. Still 2 nice bucks and alot of funny with dad is still a good thing. Hope you draw again soon.
