At first light we were crossing a wheat field, looking for signs of my buck. The sun was just starting to rise above the horizon. Suddenly Scott whispered very excitedly, "There's a double drop white tail!' I also had a white tail tag.

The buck was directly in the sunrise. I threw up my binos and realized that it was muley. He had a 3 point frame plus six inch droppers on both sides. His main frame looked like a white tail frame. He was too small to shoot but will make someone a true trophy in a few years. I just watched him walk away in amazement.

We searched for my buck for about two hours but could not find him. We decided to go back to the field we had seen the buck in the first night. Suddenly Scott pointed out across a field and said, "There's a good buck, he might be yours." I put up the spotter and sure enough, there was my buck. He was now with about 6 does and three other bucks. They were heading towards some rolling wheat country at a quick pace.

We had to drive about 2 miles to get ahead of them and then started hiking out across a soggy wheat field. We found a vantage point above a small draw I thought they would come through. Suddenly three coyotes jumped up out of the draw and started running towards the deer. The deer stopped and milled around for about five minutes.

We stayed down and peeked over the hill every once in a while to see what they were doing. I looked up and saw that the deer were now moving away to our left but my buck was not with them. Manny then said he could see him. He had seperated from the main herd and was running up a hill straight away from us into some unfarmed rolling hills. He was already over a mile away!

We hike to this area and walked arond and over allof these hills but coul dnot locate my buck. I then saw two deer across a hay field where we had started from. With the spotter I confrimed he was my buck. He was feeding along a tall burm. The wind was really howling by this time. I watched the buck until he bedded against the burm.

We circled around and got behind the burm. We snuck up with Manny running the video over my shoulder. The wind changed and was blowing on my back. I started moving very quickly, knowing the buck would wind me before I could get set. As I reached the top of the burm the buck and doe bolted to my left at about 40-50 yards. I hit him with my first shot but he kept running, I missed with the second and then put him down for good with the third. The first shot did him in and he had stopped running when I hit him the second and final time.

We started yelling and wooping it up! I asked Manny if he got the shot on video. He could only say that he had the camera pointed that way. I found out later that he had some how zoomed it all the way in and the whole hunt was nothing but a blurr! I was bummed about that but the buck was beautiful! His horns were really light, almost yellow. Even Scott said they were unusual. He was not the biggest buck but a great buck for me and I was happy as hell.

The rest of the day was spent taking care of him. The next day would start my white tail hunt.
