Wyoming Region K

Looking for some general info on Region K. I want to hunt the high broken sage/aspen country next year and I am trying to find out if region K has that type of country. You know the sage benches with the aspen groves in the draws. Also, anyone have any recent experiences in Region K? How about land ownership? Is there plenty of public land to hunt?

Lots of public land and the type of terrain you are looking for. I have hunted that region 2 times in the last 3 years. There are loads of hunter the first 3 days then thins out. Fair amount of deer to be found in the area.

larrbo, is completely misinforming you. K is 90%+ Private lands and what public groung you mmight find is land locked or very limited, now you can find public ground near sage junction but there are no aspens in this area & it is completely over ran with hunters mostly from California. FYI, Anadarko and Western Wyoming Rang CO are leasing out there lands, So all hunters who have really been hunting with out permission, The Whitney gas plant and Leroy area, get ready because as usual here comes the money and out goes guys like you and me! Check out Reign W 131 a huge unit that is mostly public

Hunted K in 03 DIY, All the good stuff was private, and the public ground is few and far between the public also flat out sucked for trophy bucks. G or H would be my first choice for a good hunt with plenty of public hunting, or save your points and put in for 101,102

Question Mr. Terd,

Is the area above the Whitney Gas Plant in the Chicken Creek area private? There are miles to hunt up there and alot of hunters. I didn't say it was the best place in the world to hunt, but if that is the only tag you draw...why not hunt. I also do not claim to be a tree expert, but I think those are aspens in all those draws up there.

Yes it is private and yes there are aspens there. THE PUBLIC GROUND NEAR SAGE JUCTION HAS NO ASPENS. HOPEFULLY THE NEW OUTFITTER CAN GET A HANDLE ON THE TRESPASSING AND SALE A REASONABLE TREESPASS HUNT, OTHERWISE YOUR CHICKEN CREEK DAYS WILL BE OVER.
