Dedicated Hunter question

I was thinking about enrolling in the DH Program again. If I draw a Limited Entry Deer tag within the next three years, does this count as one of my harvest in the program?

I just found this under the "Dedicated Hunter Rule". I take it that it doesn't count as a harvest.

(3)(a) Participants may apply for or obtain any other non general season buck deer permit as provided in Rule R657-5 and the proclamation of the Wildlife Board for taking big game.

(i) harvest of a deer with a permit obtained pursuant to Subsection (a) shall not be considered a program harvest.

(ii) participants are not required to complete program requirements prior to obtaining a permit pursuant to Subsection (a).

If you are enrolled in the dedicated hunter program and you draw a limited entry tag it will count as one of your three tags you are allowed. In UT you can only kill 1 buck deer per year period and when enrolled in the dedicated hunter program it's 2 in a 3 year program period.

If you didn't draw anything, limited entry and you decided to buy a land owner tag it still counts as one of your 2 bucks that you are allowed. Here is another thing that works out really nice with the program. If you were to harvest 2 bucks in the first 2 years of the program you can't even put in for the buck deer sportsman's tag the 3rd year! I called and asked specifically about this and was told "If you have already taken 2 bucks then on your 3rd year I guess you could put in for the Sportsman's Tag but if you draw it you will not be allowed to hunt with the tag and will have to turn it back in." That would not be good! :)

Good luck,
