Is it me or does it seem that UTAH does'nt produce the monster non typicals that it use to.. The last really big one in recent memory was that 245+ buck that Smith collected 5 or 6 years ago. When was the last 270+ taken? The Gov and Sportsmen tag holders have been killing 215 to 240 chile bucks. What gives? Is UTAH killing so many bucks that they don't have time to mature? Where should I burn my 11 points this year? Pauns, Henrys, Book Cliffs, Triangle or anywhere else? Thanks

It seems that most of the nontyps come from the southern half of the state, but there hasnt been a huge one in a while. In fact I will look it up right now. Just a sec........293 6/8 Garfield co. 1993.
Surprising but it looks like Morgan and Cache Counties have quite a few nontyps, but they are pretty old. In fact there is only 12 from the last 20 years for the whole state. The newest seems to be 2001 from Sanpete Co.

Edit: All info from B&C 12th edition.

Utah's current management plan wont allow very many bucks to reach the age required to grow that kind of bone. A buck over 200 is pretty rare and one over 250 is very very rare. The B&C has had only 349 bucks recorded that have scored over 250 inches and they have records dating back to 1830. Now I'm sure there have been half that many that have never been entered into the books, but even if you doubled that number and divided it by the 174 years the B&C has been making entries, that is only 3 bucks over 250 killed a year from Mexico to Canada.I've heard the Henerys are cranking out some good bucks.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-14-06 AT 10:49PM (MST)[p]Wasn't the Utah archery record just broken this past season on a 240+ buck and wasn't there 240+ buck taken with a muzz in 04? That seems pretty dang recent to me. :)

hmmm, I know of 3 bucks over 240 taken... and two over 224... I think thats pretty good?

Are resident or non? Prefered hunt? Archery, rifle, muzz? Either way, you won't be burning any points on the Henry's, so count that unit out. Any of the other's you'll draw almost for sure with 11 points. Not sure I would even consider Dolores or the Cliffs. Twelve years to hunt a deer, I'd either wait a couple more years for the Henry's or go Pauns now. But, you've already waited this long, why not wait a few more?
