It will likely be almost IMPOSSIBLE ;-)
Maybe I should consult with BuzzH if I get a tag!

Seriously though, VA is one of the states that does not allow bait.

You wouldnt find any rouger terrain west of the mississippi than sw virginia, Killing a elk back in there would make for a good trip out. This area is a endless supply of 3000 foot ridges. NOT bait and treestand country.

I LOVE that country around Mt. Rogers, its the closest thing to being out west around home. When I'm up in what is called the Crest Zone I always find myself expecting a mule deer to jump up and go bouncing up the hill.

No dude, I was fully aware that you could shoot a elk in VA & put your deer tag on it. VA has said since KY elk were migrating over they were afraid of getting CWD in their deer herd. So they were shooting elk and yes deer hunters (a few) have scored big time!

Most of the elk have been shot in Wise County, about 35-40 of them last I heard over 4-5 years time.

I'm just excited about possibly have several thousand nearby, not just a few that wander over.

Good Luck with getting the elk! Missouri talked about it and had alot of public meetings with most of the nonhunting crowd worried that they would hit one with their car. Alot of the deer hunters also didn't want them for fear of the deer herd getting CWD. In the end all of us that wanted elk were screwed because of alot of lies and misinformation.
