First Bull

I mentioned in my mule deer thread I had taken an elk as well so here are some pictures of that bull. This is my first elk and even though he isn't a 400" bull I'm still very happy with him. This was my first antlered animal period. I've hunted whitetail deer for 19 years and between extremely bad luck, buck fever, and being determined to only take a mature deer I had a tough time getting it done. I think the albatross is off now.

Again a big thanks to Jim Johns and JFWRC for the opportunity. I've got to spend time with my stepdad on this hunt and that has been worth more than the deer and elk combined.

good job got the first hope you have many more to come.
i've shot bulls every year but this year it was big or tag soup for me. i hunted 25 days and i got my first................................................tag soup.
i can go back in dec. and shoot a cow so i'm just sturring the pot bringing the water to a boil and hoping i don't have to throw the tag in it on new year day.
this will be only the second cow i ever shot.

Glad you had a good hunt, What unit in NM was you hunting.Looks like you guys did a great job IMO.

Good work. That was a dandy mule deer and a great first Elk. I am glad things worked out for you. Spending time w/ family and friends is what it is all about. Taking an animal home is just icing on the cake. Congrats

Congrats on a great first bull and for spending time with family in the field. I had the joy of watching my fiancee harvest her first bull down here in NM recently and it was one of my best hunting experiences. And remember, any elk is a trophy elk.
