Here is a picture of my first elk (first elk hunt) that I took in New Mexico hunting with Paul Butler of JFWRC Ranch Consulting ( www.NewMexicoBigGameHunting.com ).

I've been on a lot of hunts where things just didn't come together but for this one all the stars aligned and it was a 10 from the time I left til the time I got home. In fact even after I got home as I found out I won a gun at a local wildlife banquet while I was gone!

Big time congrats,an incredible bull let alone first bull.My first bull resembled more of a coues deer than a bull elk.

You just had that special hunt, Great looking Bull. He will look outstanding on the wall.

The bull was taken on public land. He was about 2.5 miles back in and yes after three pack loads for each of us it seemed like he weighed a TON. Actually, I think I'm still pretty excited about having the opportunity to take that bull. Every time I look at a picture it brings back great memories and makes me think how lucky I was.

We were working another bull and this one came through without any cows and came through an opening in the Pinyon pine about 140 yds out. For a mature bull the meat is fantastic too. I ended up shipping all the meat back which to me is as important as the antlers. Can't beat elk meat!

G1 did not form properly. There is a mass of antler there but it must have been injured early in the growth stage.

He is a nice Bull, but next you get a chance to harvest your first Bull Elk, you should look for one that has good swords ;-)
