late archery elk eastern washington

Looking to get my good friend's daughter (she is 12) onto a nice cow in e. washington around thanksgiving. She is a good shot out to 40 yds or so. I haven't hunted around ellensburg this late before, anyone care to offer ideas? Thanks.
