Utah Deer Landowner Tags?

Does any one know if landowner tags are available for Vernon and/or Oak Creek during rifle season? How much they cost? When they would go on sale? Where to buy them?

I am a tight wad. Does any one have names of those offering them at a reasonable cost? Or, are they reasonable?

LAST EDITED ON Feb-01-06 AT 04:27PM (MST)[p]There is a list of landowner tags on the DWR's website, along with who to contact-usually a landowner association.

Vernon tags should be in the $3500 price range. I'd be surprised if they haven't already been bought up by hunters and outfitters.

I'd also guess that some landowner tags have been purchased by conservation groups this year.

I hear the new group "Coloradoans Against Utah Tag Pimps" has purchased some for their upcoming banquets-JUST KIDDING GUYS!

I think an Oak Creek permit went for $4,000 to $4,500 last year at the SFW banquet in Delta. I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think they give out any landowner permits for Oak Creek. They do give out landowner permits for Vernon. I called the gentleman last year and he wanted around $4,000 for the permit.

If you hold out...sometimes you can get one for about $2500. I had the chance at 2 of them last year for that price. However you may not get one at all if you wait.

$2500 is A LOT closer to what I think a tag out there would be worth-still more than I'd spend on one.

In my opinion Utah and Nevada are both WAY over priced when it comes to landowner tags-Colorado was getting there, but it sounds like the residents are putting a kabosh to the whole thing. I've got mixed feelings on the whole deal.

It's all about what the market will bare I guess.

Bottom line is I think Utah takes it in the rear more than any other state when you add up the number of tags taken from the draws for conservation and landowner tags.

"Assume the position boys it's in your best interest!":)

There are no Oak Creek landowner tags because the hunt only takes place on Public lands.

The Vernon tags I have seen will run you $3,500-4,500. Over priced, unless you know where the top 4 or 5 bucks are on the unit.

Wow! Thanks for the information. You hit that on the head Packout. Too steep of price for me to hunt Vernon. I will keep my eyes open and see if a deal comes along. Probably not because some guys have a little more pocket change than me. Oh well, I do not blame them one bit!

If anyone hears anything remember ktc!

LAST EDITED ON Feb-02-06 AT 06:44PM (MST)[p]KTC,

Everyone is very close on price range.

I had 3 last year. $3,500 each. Good luck finding one cheaper.
I usually get a couple tags every year. My brother had one and had to sell it 2 days before the hunt because of work obligations. He got $2,500, he paid $3,000. Took a $500 hit.(at least he didn't eat it being only 2 days before the season).
The landowner tags are cool, as you may pick your season to hunt(archery, muzzy, or rifle). Considering the size of animals that roam the Vernon, the price fits. This unit was almost made into a Premium unit, but THE DON(SFW), didn't get his way!!! It's still a standard limited entry unit.

I took a photo of a buck that would measure over 32". A bow hunter hit it on the archery hunt. It had an arrow sticking out of it's head. I tried to post a pic on MM last year, however, "browtine" or one of the other founders thought it was a tastless photo, as so removed it.

Let me know if I can assist you in finding tag. AS I AM YOUR TAG PIMP DADDY!!!!

LOL< LOL WHO'S YOUR DADDY!!!!

I was amazed at the high cost of these tags? I spent a great deal of time on the unit the last 2 years, and in all honesty, the unit is barely better than general season areas. You get less people is about all. I will agree, there is the occasion big one, but those are few and far between.

Hopefully, I will be hunting elk this year. I fugured if the price was right I would do it. Maybe it will be in a few years unless a screaming deal falls my way this year. I doubt it though.;-)
