I have will have 15 "bonus Points" for deer and have been putting in for 3 years. I turned in a poacher and recieved 10 bonus points. Why can't I draw? Any Answers would be great. I don't really think that points matter or I would have been drawn by now. 3 years with 12, 13 and 14 with out anything. Just really frustrated with the system.

You got ten points for turning in a poacher?!
Wish AZ adopted that policy!

Then again, it won't guarantee you will draw as your case has proven.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-02-06 AT 02:02PM (MST)[p]It is still the luck of the draw. Are you putting in for units that 3,500 other people put in for 10 permits or are you putting in for a unit that has 1500 other people for 40 permits? A lot of other people still have 8-10 points and still haven't gotten drawn.
Don't get me wrong, I still think you have been very unlucky the past three years as 15 points should give you the best chance of anybody out there. They square the number of points you have so you really have 225 entries into the draw.
I drew last year with 5 points as a second choice for a unit with 1600 people and 30 permits. Are you only marking one choice? That also may be why you haven't drawn.

You should have taken the cash reward if it was an option. Washington is a little backwards and doesn't work like Oregon or the others. My friend drew Quilomene rifle deer as a 2nd choice with only 4 points. Go figure. IMO, a guy with 4 points shouldn't have the slightest chance for a permit such as that as a 2nd choice. In Oregon that would have never happened. The best source of information on how they draw is their website.

A lot of the units on the Okanogan area that have late buck permits only give out 5-10 permits and have 600-2500 people trying the get them. The Chelan units give out more permits but more people try for them on average. I did draw a late buck permit for a unit that had 5 tags with only three points. In washington it's all luck the way they draw permits.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-02-06 AT 07:07PM (MST)[p]I wouldn't say Washington is "backwards." It's just that the point system is different than some other states. I like it, because as others have said, there is a lot of luck involved, meaning that a guy with only a couple points still has a chance to draw. Odds do go up greatly as points increase, since the points are squared, so for example 8 points would give you 64 chances in the drawing. But still, as others have also stated, the hunt that has say 5 points, and 3 to 4 thousand applicants, even a guy with several points is still not going to have good odds of drawing, especially when you consider that many of the applicants for the same permit have just as many points, if not more.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-03-06 AT 01:23AM (MST)[p]I have been putting in for the Methow, okanogan and Eniat areas for a late muledeer. I know that I am putting in for tougher draws but I can't even draw a Fall turkey permit. I have been putting in for everything for about 6 years with no luck on anything. Wait I did Draw a spring blackbear tag the first year they had that inthe Blue Mountains. Some People Just have luck. My uncle has been putting in for a mule deer permit for 8 years and he has drawn 4 times. Yes the same areas I have been putting in for. I will keep trying until i draw something.

Thanks for your input.

Well with 15 points you have 225 chances, which isn't bad. Try applying for some hunts that offer more than 5 permits, if you really want to draw. But you sure don't want to waste 15 points on a mediocre hunt. Any of the Chelan and Okanogan late mule deer permits are good, and some are easier to draw. I drew Entiat in 2004 with 3 points. It's all luck.
